4% ??

Care to share what mathematical formula you came up with to get that number?

Broscience?

Xscience?

Are you just fond of making shit up as you go? Seems like it.

X, what should we do with all these skinny guys? Run them off the forums perhaps? Steer them in the right direction? Give them a lashing?

Just trying to be productive and progressive and positive here.
LOL.

This thread is what I am doing about it. Keep up.

Either add to it, or take yourself away from it. You are what is preventing production and progression when we are discussing the basics of what builds big muscles.
OK, I am trying to get the messages right.

Is it, “Stick to the basics. Eat a lot of good food. Don’t waste money on supplements and elaborate programs. Stay consistent.”?

This intensity is what is missing.

This alone is why many people won’t ever come close to their potential no matter how much they read.

If you have it…then you probably look like it.

Yeah, that too: effort, trying hard. I agree.

You think this message boards should be spread to other boards too?

Never gonna happen. What’s that old saying about some people preferring to sit in the dark complaining?

I think alot can be said for intensity no matter what workout pattern/scheme you are doing. Even if all these guys can do is bodyweight movements its done in extremely high volume, minimal rest between sets, in a very intense manner.

Not to knock the routines of people who train with a few minute rest periods between sets, but I think if inmates trained that way I dont think it would give the results we are seeing in those videos.

Intensity and conditioning. I saw better progress myself when I reduced the rest time and started doing other exercises as “active rest” instead of just sitting there.

I still built that base though with heavy weights and longer rest times.

This seems dumb. Anyone can edit a bunch of extremely short and selective clips together, put some metalish sounding music on the background, and make it look “intense.” Aside from a couple clips, if you ignore the repetitive music, and the scary looking environment, they don’t look to be training any more intensely than any other person putting halfway decent effort into a lift.

I almost cringe every time somebody brings up the question of how inmates get so jacked. Sure, there is a slightly higher percentage than people outside of prison who are big and muscular, that should be obvious considering they get to sit around and sleep, eat, and workout all day. By far though, the bulk of inmates look just as fat, soft, out of shape, or skinny as the average person does. That includes those who use the gym on a routine basis, and who I see doing pull-ups, dips, etc every time they go out to yard.

What I don’t understand (and I’m genuinely curious here) is, what do you think this thread is accomplishing? You said that this thread is what you are doing about it, but what are you doing? I mean, has anyone in here read through this thread and thought to themselves, “Wow, X is right. I am now going to completely change my outlook on training and bring a whole new level of intensity to the gym!” No, they haven’t.

In fact, I’d wager that nobody who has posted in here will change anything about how they train and that’s just fine. That is because, at the end of the day, how others train and look isn’t any business of yours at all. People come to this site for many reasons, none of which, I presume, are to be berated by someone who sees their own goals and progress as superior to others’.

This is a fascinating topic and does beg the question how much protein/calories a lifter really needs since these guys probably aren’t eating that much.
Protein it would seem isn’t as necessary if there are enough calories overall coming in to keep you in an anabolic state.

I have usually found no need to even supplement much protein unless dieting specifically

I personally think it is retarded to glorify a bunch of dumbass fuckups in prison, whether they are huge or not.

Then you should probably avoid the thread…and quite a few people in the fitness industry.

But guy, this is about intensity.

This thread is not about intensity, although that has been part of it. It has also been about drugs vs natural, about racial differences, about nutrition, volume, rest, testosterone levels, etc. I personally think they should limit weight lifting in prison, give them less time in the yard, no TV’s, nothing. Sure prison life isn’t a walk in the park, I am sure, but why spend an extra dime on creature comforts for a criminal.

I do avoid dumbass fuckups in general, whether fitness related or not.

I think that Ratt was being sarcastic with ya, but who knows.

It also seems really stupid to take criminals many of whom have committed violent crimes and put them in a situation where they can get bigger and stronger.

Kinda seems stupid as fuck actually.

Once again, the first video was of guys who have no access to weights at all…which is the point.

They look like that WITHOUT A GYM.

I believe withdrawing recreation and healthy activities would cause further problems which would create people who come out of prison more screwed up than they would have been if they had it and would require more psychological and other healthcare services.

Probably true, but it just seems crazy to make violent people more dangerous.

A better solution would to be far more harsher to violent criminals in the first place and to avoid them multiplying so mightily as they do today. Case in point: a lot of these people do not give a damn about going to prison the way you or I would.
