most boring piece of shit movie I’ve ever seen, the only redeeming thing about this crap was brad pitt and the basterds whom hardly got any screentime. I’m a fan of most tarantino flicks, reservoir dogs and pulp fiction being my favourite, but he really dropped the ball on this one. Movie was filled with tons of pointless dialogue and hardly no action, like the first scene for instance, like fuck if you know the jews are hiding under the floorboards fucking get down to it and kill them already rather then go on and on with pointless shit about cows and milk for 15 min. I don’t even want to get started on the bar scene with all the german officers.
Both the scenes you described were paramount for the development of the movie. Especially the opening scene. It fully illustrates just how intelligent the Jew Hunter is and why we believe everything he does throughout the movie. Not only does his “reputation” precede him, but he fully earns it and this is shown during the opening scene.
The Jew Hunter is the most versatile character in the movie, in my opinion. I loved the mind games he played with the Milk Farmer in the opening scene, he gets off playing games with people; that’s the point!
tarantino is a very good writer. in all of his films, he goes for deep exposition and suspense. he loves a twist and is serious about the study of human nature, irony and the repercussions of revenge. i can see why it’s a dream for an actor to work with him. it’s like working in theatre and film at the same time with the very best of both worlds and they know he respects the craft. he takes his bad guys and heroes seriously like comics and graphic novels and pulp characters. if you don’t get into ALL of that you probably will have blocks of time watching any of his films where you get bored. this to me was one of his best films.
i wouldn’t have thought he could top pulp fiction, resevoir dogs and kill bill but he may have. walz’s portrayal was the most brilliantly evil character i’ve seen in a movie because of how very comfortable he was with himself.
spoiler:
the opening scene at the farm and ‘operation kino’ the burning of the theatre wherein the nazis were incinerated were perfect.
the bar scene when the jig is up was awesome. i loved it because when he held up the wrong fingers i was like damn. are you serious? you moron.
of course brad brought it. that’s what the man does. no half measures. ever.
the bear jew. shoshana. the sniper. the double agent actress.
I thought it was a solid movie. I thought the bar scene was pretty intense. Like everyone said earlier, I would liked to have seen more on the Basterds.
Just saw it today with my dad. Great film. Really enjoyed the dialogue, but then I am a Tarantino fan. The opening scene and bar scene were super intense. Both times I had no idea how they were going to play out, so there was plenty of suspense.
Like everyone else, I would have liked to see more about the Basterds. There needed to be an entire chapter devoted to them doing a raid of some sort.
Also, didn’t see much talk about the fact that the two leading ladies in this film were pretty freaking hot. But I am sucker for blondes.
I also enjoyed the heavy role that dairy played in this film. Just the other day I was telling someone about my trip to Europe and how I never had such good cream/yogurt/milk as when I was in France and Germany. Milk and cream were all over this place in the movie. Made me hungry.
But did any of you notice that there were scenes in the trailer that were not in the movie? I don’t know if the same trailers were shown in the NL as in America but in the trailer I saw there was one scene of a Basterd running through a hallway shooting a big Rambo style gun - not a scene in the movie.
Another scene in the trailer had Hitler shouting ‘Nein, nein, nein!’ and Pitt responding ‘Oh yes, yes yes!’. While Hitler’s scene was in the movie, Pitt’s responding scene was not.
Now I understand that a trailer is meant to draw audience to a movie and will provide an overview of the movie that will draw the most audience. That’s why often a mediocre or downright terrible film will have an action-filled or hilarious trailer that gives away all of the best parts. I get that.
But I don’t agree with putting scenes that did not make the final cut in the trailer, simply because the trailer should represent the film and these scenes are not in the film.
Anyway, just something I noticed and was wondering if someone else saw that too.
I didn’t care too much for the ending, but with that being said I loved the building tension in the bar scene. My favorite part of the movie. The British and SS officers were both bad ass not giving an inch and going out without a shred of weakness. Brad Pitt’s opening speech was hilarious and bad ass. The Jew hunter was great the man played that part brilliantly.

The only reason I watched this movie was cause H2 was on before it at the drive in.
I thought the movie had the worst acting in it! Brad Pit has stared in another flop just like burn after reading.
Best of the movie ?? Watching the Nazi’s burn. The worst part of the movie?? Watching the rest of it.
as of September 4th worldwide box office earnings were at $140,778,363. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that’s a flop. I’m not arguing that you think it’s a bad movie, that’s your opinion, but I think calling it a flop is, obviously, not the right adjective I would’ve used.
