The Movie: The Departed

I just saw this movie this evening and have to say it was very good!

If you’ve recently been avoiding the cinema because you’ve been disappointed with all the crap they put out you wont be with this one.

The only thing bad I could think to say about it is that its a long movie (about 2.5 hours). I personally enjoy long movies, but I know some people do not.

best movie i’ve seen in a while!! i have never seen soooo many head shots in a movie ever.

To my understanding, the movie is loosley based on the book Black Mass.

To my understanding, the book Black Mass is loosley based on FBI Agent John Connelly’s mishandling of Whitey Bulger as an informant.

OR at least thats what one of my Criminal Justice instructors at college tells me. But he try’s to convince his students that FBI agents can eat #9 wire and shit nails.

No doubt about it. I’ve seen IA and not only is The Departed based upon it, it’s actually an English-language remake of the Hong Kong flick.

In a few areas Scorseci (sp?) goes off in his own direction, but for the great majority of the movie he sticks right to the IA plotline.

Don’t get me wrong — it’s a GREAT movie. In fact, it was only about halfway through the movie that I recognized it was a remake.

Nicholson, Damon, and Wahlberg are great. I also grudgingly admit that DeCaprio is finally growing into a man — in fact he was quite excellent.

Your instructor is a complete idiot…

I thought it was a crappy movie…everything just pieced together at the end when they couldn’t come up with a good ending, amatuer hour.

Yes indeed! The Departed was awesome.

[WARNING]I’m going to assume that if you’re reading this thread you’ve already seen the movie. If you haven’t, skip the rest of this post. Spoilers below. [WARNING]

With that said, I was literally on the edge of my seat with my jaw open for the entire last half of the movie!

First, they throw Martin Sheen’s character, the police captain, off the roof! No friggin’ way! You…you can’t…you can’t just kill Martin Sheen, not to mention a police captain?!

Second, Sheen’s corpse lands right at DiCaprio’s feet! Holy crap!

Third, I literally yelled in the theater when DiCaprio gets shot on the elevator. They just shot the main character! In the face! I was not expecting that.

Fourth, I think Scorsese set the record for the most consecutive headshots in a single scene at the abandoned building/elevator scene.

Finally, could the ending have been more poetic?

Man, that was a great movie.

Oh I’m sorry, it was quite the piece of artistry to just kill everyone at the end…as if it wasn’t totally obvious that Damon’s character would keep that stupid envelope and then Dicaprio would see it and put it all together, the suspense was UN-FUCKING-REAL…only surprising piece was killing off Sheen’s character.

Yeah, Im sure you knew of the other mole too right? You knew Damon would Kill Jack? Yup, you knew that too I’m sure…

I knew Damon would have to kill jack at least half way thru the movie or vice versa, but Damon being the younger of the two I figured it would work out that way.

Didn’t forsee the other dude being a mole, but it wasn’t all that ingenius a plot twist…I don’t see the problem in having different tastes in movies, but trying to trivialize my opinion by labeling me a “troll” is a bit ridiculous…especially considering the fact that I’ve been here longer than you.

maybe someone should post “spoiler” in the title of the thread, dickholes.

good movie…
from the area…
surprised to hear that it was a remake of an asian movie…
I just saw shades of the Whitey Bulger story in it…

A few general comments…
I thought (for some reason) they made Jack’s character a little too likable.

Also, i thought it was a bit hokey at times… i.e. ending when rat runs across screen.

But overall, really good movie. Just not as good as people led me to believe.

You didn’t figure on that ending happening? What the hell else happens at the end of Scorsese gangster movies? I think that’s kind of the point…you can’t stay in that world for long without catching a bullet. Not that I really enjoyed the ending wholeheartedly or anything. The ending really shouldn’t have been that shocking (besides DiCaprio’s death) to anyone following the plot.

I wouldn’t be so quick to piss on anyone who doesn’t instantly love a movie unconditionally. It’s good to discuss movies when there’s differing opinions.

I need to see the original though.

First off, you sure you’ve been here longer than me?

Second, it was your poor attempt at dicrediting the movie that got you the troll lable.

You figured out that he would see the enveolpe. Whoop-tee-doo. Welcome to film 101, the motif. All of the great film makers use it and all films usually use it.

The original is 3 movies and too spaced out. The reason for the one film was better character development and to speed things up.

First off, yes, but does it really fucking matter? If I was a troll, I’d be the longest living troll in the history of T-Nation. Calling someone a troll for harboring an opinion different than yours is akin the McCarthy labelling someone Communist or the Bush administration labeling someone unpatriotic for disagreeing with the war.

Second, it wasn’t an attempt to discredit the movie. It was my opinion. I wrote, “I thought it was a crappy movie.”

I didn’t like the fucking movie. I don’t think the producers or actors need your defense, but keep at it, it won’t make me like it any better.
