Increased appetite - yet I am losing weight

So, 28yo guy here.
Around 12% body fat, not crazy well built (I’m more skinny than buff).
I’m at around 72kg currently, I was at 77kg about a month ago.

I’ve always been eating a lot, but lately it’s just insane. I’m hungry all the time. Especially after workouts.

My training routine has not changed.
I started eating way more than before.
My digestive tract does show some kind of issues lately…

I tested negative for parasites, so it’s not that.
I also don’t have either gluten or lactose insensitivity, so I ruled that out too.

Regarding supplements - I used to only drink whey protein after my workouts. Now I drink 1-2 protein shakes a day. Even on days I’m not working out.
I’m considering adding creatine too, as it might help me at least reduce weight loss.

So, yeah, the training routine is the same, I’m eating way more, I’m also taking a lot more whey protein, yet I’m still losing weight.

I’m considering seeing a doctor if this keeps up.
What are your thoughts?

I think we need more information first. Can you post your diet, workout, and a photo?

I recommend you consult a physician, preferably a GP, for proper history, examination and bloodwork. Any family history of thyroid disorder or diabetes?

Seriously get your thyroid levels checked.

I’ll post that once I get home.

Yeah, I have both in my family history, both diabetes and thyroid issues.

Quickly list some of the things you’ve been eating.

I guess I gotta see a doctor in that case…

What does this mean?
What does your diet consist of?
As you build muscle your metabolic rate will increase.

The OP stated no changes apart from increased appetite, change of gut function, and a, in my opinion, abnormal weight loss - indicating a new factor (illness) to be ruled out. This also supported by hereditary traits.

@LostGuy: Please seek further care from your healthcare provider. And do let us know how it all turns out. Hopefully you’re ok, though it’s good to rule out the obvious questions.

Training program:
Saturday:
Squat 5x5 starting with 120 and ending with 100kg

Monday:
Bench press 5x5 with 80kg
Skull crushers

Wednesday:
10, 8 and 6 pull-ups with weigh added (10-15kg)
Hanging leg raises for abs.

I do weighted dips instead of bench press and lunges instead of squats from time to time.

Diet… what I ate yesterday from morning to night:
4 eggs and some bacon (just around 100g).
Bowl of ceral with milk.
Then 80g chocolate bar.
500ml of milk and 1,5 scoops of whey protein shake.
8 chicken drums.
200g of pork
300g potatoes and veggies
4 more eggs
180g can of tuna
150g bag of potato chips
2 bananas
And a sandwich

Usually when I go to work:
4 eggs and 100g of bacon at home
50g snickers bar
1 slice of pizza when I get to city
500ml of milk and 1.5 scoops of whey shake before break.
300g of some meat (beef or pork) and around 200g of potatoes I brought from home.
And once I’m back home I usually take 500g of pasta and 500g of ground meat and then add some spices and veggies and make spaghetti, and I tend to eat it all by the time I go to bed.
I also like to snack on sweets.

This looks like a “meat and sugar” diet with one big meal late at night.

I’m not going to math out the calories, but like other people said it’s not eating enough.

Do you all seriously believe this?

He lost 5kg in a month, still has a high appetite, and is losing weight while eating over 6000 calories a day at 158 lbs?

If you are not losing strength I wouldn’t give it any thought.

Yes. Hyperthyroidism can absolutely fuck you up. Once the calories are used up your body will burn muscle for fuel.

This has been “going on for some time now”. He lost 5kg in a month, if it were hyperthyroidism, there would be other noticeable signs besides just rapid weight loss. Signs that couldn’t be ignored.

Same with gut issues. No one is just going to lose 5kg in a month and otherwise feel normal.

Those issues would have you seeing a doctor on your own e.g. if you’re shitting blood, not consulting a random forum.

Like what? Rapid heart rate, sensitive to heat, shaky hands etc…

I don’t recall this

When your thyroid is out of whack it speeds up all things, including digestion.

It depends on how serious it is. You can have a flare up without having a full thyroid storm.

It doesn’t hurt to have some blood work done just to be sure.

It is not going to speed it to the point that he is eating almost 7000 calories at 158 lbs and still losing weight. Not without other symptoms. Even, then 7000 calories? C’mon

He is making it seem like he feels perfectly normal aside from some digestive issues. What are those 24 hr. diarrhea? Again, if that is the case a random forum is not the answer.

I don’t see this diet making sense.

I am uncomfortable with this statement, unless I just don’t know what “otherwise feel normal” means. I typically started my contest diet at a little over 240lbs (usually 242 to 243lbs), and within 8 weeks be down to 220lbs, which I did numerous times. I suppose you can say that a contest diet does not feel normal, though it did become a normal feeling to me.

Just getting down to hard numbers, assuming my starting weight was 242lbs and 8 weeks later I had dropped to 220lbs. That is a weight drop of 22lbs, which is approximately 10kg. 8 weeks is 93.3% of 2 months. So, my experiences don’t see a 5kg weight loss in a month an extraordinary drop in weight.
