Incline Bench Press and Safety Supports

Why don’t incline bench presses usually have safety supports? I haven’t seen them in any of the gyms I’ve been to, whereas flat bench presses often do.

I usually train it at an RPE of 8-9, but I’m not really sure what to do if I ever miscalculate and fail since I train alone. In fact, that’s the only reason I’ve been considering switching to incline dumbbell presses instead.

Power rack.

If you’re training alone at a gym you can just ask anyone for a spot - most people won’t mind.

If you’re in a garage gym by yourself, don’t use clips and if you get stuck, dump one side off then let the bar go. No one is there to see you.

Put the bar in your lap and painfully stand up.

Nothing wrong with just using DB’s then, or using the flat bench.

I think this is as good a reason as any - gravity saves your life on the incline and takes it on the flat.

Happy cake day @T3hPwnisher!

Thanks! Holy cow: 18 years. My account is old enough to vote. I still remember my first post: reporting in that I was drinking a gallon of milk a day, as I had just finished up my run of Super Squats for the first time and felt like I was finally “legit” enough to post here, haha.

Missing a barbell incline press hurts some.
Missing a barbell bench press can kill you.

Kicking big ass dumbbells up to your shoulders is not risk free either.

Incline are for Flies!

Ha! I remember lurking for a long time too. I finally created an account to ask CT if I one of his programs was a fit with all the running I had to do back then, because I was buying into the idea one would explode if they did both. I was nervous!

IDK, Fly Press is pretty cool too
