Inception Movie

No we’re both wrong. 5 minutes equals and hour in the first layer the second is 6 months the third is ten years. That makes sense then because I was doing some math and it would have been ten years if the 5 minutes/1 hour rule applied to all layers of dreaming.

Wish I seen this in IMAX.

Pretty Damn Good movie. Too intellectual for the summer crowd, but not gay enough for the hipster/artsy fartsy crowd.

fantastic movie, my girlfriend and i absolutely loved it. interesting from beginning to the very end, a classic film in my opinion.

Large theory spoiler but no actual storyline spoiler:

I thought it was good but not as great as I had hoped.

I guess for me I wanted to see more of the Mobius Strips and architectural play on elements and physics. The plot otherwise left a lot in my opinion to be desired. I mean great a dream within a dream and planting an idea. That was all great. I didn’t need to see so much action and explosions though nor did I care so much about the whole Mal thing which didn’t make a lot of sense until the end.

They never really explained what the point of the girl was at all. She was the architect but they explained it as she creates the level. Clearly the subconscious though could effect the architecture - they either shouldn’t have done this or should’ve done more with this. Why was the only subconscious we saw of Cobb and why did the architect not shift the level once inside to adjust when needed, she supposedly had those abilities with the only risk being that eventually the subconscious would attack her, but she didn’t do it at all. I really didn’t like her character at all.

It wasn’t a bad film but it could’ve been so much better in my opinion. I expected to see Lebbeus Woods types of stuff happening.

Super entertaining, smart, kick ass, FUN movie. This thing was a BLAST.

Was it possibly because they were all in Cobb’s dream?

They weren’t in Cobbs dream unless the entire movie was 1 big dream, which I suppose it could’ve been. But if it wasn’t one big dream than they were in the dream of Fisher unless I really didn’t understand at all, which is also possible.

And then the autistic kid woke up?

That wasn’t Nolans goal it was just a different take on a heist film. And I doubt it was Cobb’s dream because the top would have had no significance.

SPOILER*

The whole movie ended up being Cobb’s 1st level dream. When they are on the plane flight home after everything goes down, that is Cobb’s first level. It is NOT his reality. Hence the top continuing to spin at the end of the film. I think that was the best possible ending to the film as well, since the whole damn thing was based on different levels of dreaming aka dreams within dreams within dreams.

No bud that was the whole point of the end nobody really knows if it was reality or not.

But the top could have stopped spinning, they cut it off for the effect that we don’t know for sure.

Nope. His totem stopped spinning when in the real world with Ariadne, the same world when they first got on the plane.

^^ I’m pretty sure it was meant to be left up in the air. I really liked the movie. I agree with what roybot said a couple pages back about nolan doing a good job at casting against type. I initially thought leonardo dicaprio was too pretty boy to pull it off, but I thought he did a good job.

Edit - nevermind.

I saw the movie last night and had a hard time falling asleep afterwards (due to my mind not wanting to shut off, this movie makes you think). Best movie of the year (so far).

Great fucking movie! I saw in in Imax and the visuals were insane the last 1/2 hour was ridiculous. The hallway seen was probably THE best action sequence I’ve seen in quite some time. The sound design was awesome! Christopher Nolan is the best when it comes to psychological thrillers. As far as whether the end was a dream or not, I think the conversation he had with the kids on the phone was very weird.:

SPOILER

Did anyone notice that during the conversation with the kids that there voices went from younger to older a couple times? Also when he was talking to his wife in limbo she was saying how his own subconscious was actually the people trying to attack him not any actual “corporation”. I think the entire movie might have been a dream and it’s gonna take multiple viewings for me to really decipher what really happened.

/Spoilers

This is a must see for anyone who is not a dimwit.

It also made me happy to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt get a role in a bigger film like this. He’s a solid actor and it’s about time that he got some bigger roles.

For those that haven’t seen him in anything else, see The Lookout and Brick. He is more than just that kid who was in 3rd Rock from the Sun.

I never understand when people say Leonardo DiCaprio is a pretty boy. He was in what? 1 I guess you could argue 3 pretty boy roles? Titanic, Romeo and Juliet, and The Beach (and I’m not too sure Romeo and Juliet or The Beach are really pretty boy roles)

He was great in “What’s Eating Gilbert Great” and then I think has been rising more and more since “Gangs of New York” - I mean Blood Diamond, The Departed, Aviator. Personally I really enjoy Catch Me If You Can as well. These were not pretty boy flicks. I’m not even sure Leonardo was cast against type, this seems very much in line with some of his past work - if anything Titanic is probably the most out of type role he’s played in. Almost every other role has some sort of element of psychology/dementia/disability to it that DiCaprio seems to excel at.

It also helps that he stays away from those shitty Romantic Comedies that many actors get caught up doing.

Could be wrong, but pretty sure that the kids were switching back and forth on the phone before their grandma hung up. Honestly, I’m not sure what to think of this movie. I’m probably gonna need to see it a few more times before I can really wrap my brain around it. There was just so much going on and so much that was seemingly left to individual interpretation. I will say that Nolan consistently makes some of the most interesting, well done and involved movies of our time.
