I play h.s. football and my coaches test the 20y. When we race each other in practice (all from a three-point stance), I’m one of the fastest guys there. Yet, I tested poorly (3.1 20y) and guys who I regularly beat in practice recorded faster times.
My coach told me that I’m losing all of my time at the start. What are some basic techniques that I can use to improve my start? BTW, we can start in any stance we want as long as we have at least one hand on the ground.
If you want to improve the start of your sprint, go check out the Charlie Francis forums. Those guys know the ins and outs of sprinting technique!
(Basically, it’s their specialty over there).
Your coach told you a very important thing but it may be difficult to see the route to attain your goals. Your problems with your start demonstrate a missing component to your training that to maximize field performance need to be dealt with.
But instead of focusing on your start per se, why not training properly for the sport of Football. The route to improving your start needs to that it carries over to the gridiron and you are not just a “workout warrior”.
This is something Joe DeFranco goes over exactly in his video reviewed <a href=“Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION”>HERE. Every team should own a copy of this. Maybe you can talk the coach into getting one. If you’re really serious about football, it’s worth buying yourself.
ask your coach first, since he said its your start, find out exactly what it is about your start you are missing. you could also ask you high school track coach for some advice. it is really hard to evaluate your own start by yourself, or somebody online to without seeing it. ask them and post what they say, we could probably be of more assistance.
