I'm Old, Not Obsolete

Awwww… if it makes you feel any better, you got more done than I did :grinning:

Skating Lessons - 1 hour
Scrimmage - 50 minutes

Lessons went really well, knees felt great.

Not so much after the 1.5 hour wait for the scrimmage… :frowning:

Made some good passes, scored the only goal against the other team goalie on a bad angle shot. I aimed for the back knee pad to try to set up a rebound and the puck turned off the goalies stick and went in the net.

And that’s why they say to always put the shot on net.

Right knee decided it was done with 10 minutes to go in the scrimmage.

I listened to it and went and got some ice on it.

20161006 - Nothing

Ended up skipping the Bench/Squats day. Mt right knee is acting up, felt a pop in it while skating last night.

And with me skating three games in one day for a tournament next Saturday, I decided I’m going to spend next week running a deload, then come back and restart this cycle.

20161009 - Hockey

Scrimmage - 1 hour

Way, way, short on people (8 skaters) so we did 3 on 3 across ice. Made some good passes, got a goal on a rebound from my fist shot.

20161015 - Lot’s of Hockey

Actually, 3 - 1 hour games in one day.

Hockey Tournament in Lincoln. Skill level was “supposed” to be intermediate advanced. I scraped together a roster for my team the Omaha Flames.

Game 1 Offutt Marauders vs Omaha Flames. 1145 AM

Offutt Marauders is an adult team that have their own weekly scrimmage/practice to work together. Three full lines of offense, two on defense.

We ended up with 11 players and our goalie. Ran three centers and two wing pairs, two lines of defense.

We played them well, had a few opportunities to score. Just couldn’t hit the back of the net. I had several good shots on net, made a few good passes and good defensive plays.

Ended up losing one player in the 2nd period, he went to the locker room to puke and never came back.

Flames lost 0-4. They were essentially a very good team from the upper level of my league or from the more skilled league in town, the Beer and Pretzel league.

One of the players on the Marauders was one of my first hockey instructors back in 2003. He said I played really well in the game.

Game 2 - Omaha Flames vs Don Johnson Hockey. 3 PM

Don Johnson Hockey was a team from Lincoln. Never heard of them before. Three lines of offense and defense. I recognized a couple of guys from the upper level of my league.

We played the game with 10 players, two lines of offense and defense.

They were VERY good. We scored the first goal and it went downhill from there.

Flames lost 1-9.

Game 3 - Igloo Brewing Company vs Omaha Flames. 815 PM

Igloo Brewing company was another team from Lincoln. A lot of the players play in the two upper levels of my league in town.

This was more of the skill level I expected. Teams exchanged leads with the Flames being up 5-3 going into the third period. Igloo’s tied the game up with 3 minutes to go. I called a time out, put out the best players. We scored with 5 seconds left on the clock.

Flames won 6-5.

The team we lost to in Game 2 went on to play in the championship game Sunday morning.

Pretty sore afterwards. Nice bruise on my shin from blocking a slap shot in game 2 from the biggest guy on that team, he was maybe 6’5" and 280 lbs. Knees did good and feel pretty good the day after.

Go Flames!!! Good news about the knees too!

Thanks CL!

We at least had the best looking jerseys in the tournament.

Oh, oh, oh! Very niiiiccceee! I like it!

Look at that big “A” on there!

Actually, mine has the big “C”…

That was just the first jersey I got to take a pic of.

This was from a couple of years ago, at the first tournament I had a team in.

So I lost a friend on Sunday. Tim was an incredible man, and wonderful person.

I hope to help set an example like he did with my life.

Sorry about your friend. I know of 5 people who had ALS.

Your weightlifter/hockey log is always interesting.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a great guy.
