Refereeing - 1 hour
Refereed a scrimmage between two teams for the upcoming tournament this weekend. Essentially, I got to scout teams in my division, free beer and some cash too.
Knees felt good, I could accelerate from a full stop to catch the fastest breakaways in about 5 steps.
Hockey is so much fun. I still skate once every couple of weeks but would love to play again. Still lift at the gym 3 or 4 times a week. You have quite a full plate with all the hockey and lifting. Got to keep the bod in shape. Enjoyed your posts and good luck on your next game.
Been busy with hockey. Big tournament in town this weekend, 40 adult teams playing. I have a team registered in the level thats a couple below the Open level. Hopefully I’ll get some pics posted from this weekend.
What part of the country are you in. That’s a pretty good size tournament. Kudos for all your hockey antics. I’ve found it’s kind of tough going from deadlifts or squats to skating. Great time of year if you follow the NHL. Think I’ll go out on a limb and take Nashville. We’d love to see some pics of tournament if you get a chance. Take it easy on the goalies and not too many hat tricks.

Game 1 at the Omaha Good Life Tournament, Intermediate ELite Level.
We played a team we never heard of before. Turns out they were a bunch of 20ish year olds who played travel hockey from Kearney, Ne.
Their oldest was 30, Our youngest was 29. I’m the oldest at 54.
We won 1-0 with the game winning goal at 6.4 seconds left in the third, while we were shorthanded and on a penalty kill.

There was then a bench clearing brawl. Well… they came over to our bench, we just had to lean over to get to them.

Sounds like quite a game. Bet those youngsters on the other team had you about wore out. You’re probably familiar with your Omaha Lancers and I just live down the street from where the Des Moines Buccaneers play. I envy you still playing. Maybe this summer I can get my skating skills back up to speed and get back into playing next year. I’ve got 10 years on you but still would love to get back to playing again. Appreciate your game update.

I was in Texas just last spring. It’s not a bad drive from Omaha.
My neighbor does every year and sometimes two or three times if he has to go back.

I’ll update the tournament results soon. The short story is we went 1-2, and I compensated by over-rehydrating all weekend. And shutting down bars, lol.

Tournament update
Me struggled with the games Saturday. Morning game we lost 1-3. We scored first, had a lot of really close misses. But if you can’t get the biscuit into the back of the net, you’re not going to win.
Tried to recover from the morning loss by tailgating out in the parking lot. It was only 40 degrees and on and off rain, but that didn’t stop us.
Stuck around the rink to watch more games. The novice level women’s team went with a uniform setup that was maybe a little unfair. But then again their team name is The Flying V’s…
Drove over to the rink where our last game was. Actually consider it pretty cool that Omaha has 8 sheets of ice now.
Last game again didn’t go well, lost 3-5. We just couldn’t find a rhythm.
Went to watch more friends play. Then on to the tournament party to rehydrate, talk to friends and relax.
Back to the rink Sunday morning to watch the championship games.
Busy weekend, but fun!
Wow. Eight sheets of ice, lucky you. I thought we were doing good with four. Playing hockey will keep the weight off.
