Assistance

TATE PRESS - 40/15 50/12,10
SPOON PRESS - 70/15

  • I never figured out my MP calcs so since I want to incline and MP I keep the reps low on this day and focus on strength, Im going to stay at 200 next week and then move on to 205, I wont max out until the 9 weeks are over. I know the program doe-sent call for it but inclines seem to help my bench and MP and would like to continue using em. I will cut out the extreme assistance stuff that I always fall into, I still want to do my chins and pulls but may lay off of them for another week as they have aggravated my elbows, so Ill rest on that. Im going to try…really hard to follow the program closer and not add so much extra stuffs.

War group Hug
nice session.
this 5x5 program is fugging work.

Dave Tate has an excellent vid talking about values-
where its in business or in the gym that living by your own values
is hard
but its the quality of the effort to stick to them that makes it worth it.

totally paraphrasing but its apt.

Il ove how you did your meet like 3 weeks ago
and are already tearing shit up and fixing stuff

Thanks alot Kev, I read what you said in Up’s log, we all have this obsession, and the journey will always have peaks and valleys but this is a healthy obsession, sometimes people who don’t have this passion will never understand it.

Like you said this shit keeps me (us) happy, I turn into a prick when I miss a day.

that 5 x 5 stuff looks exhausting

see you’re working hard as usual

Yes Sir!

Have a great Holiday Pete!

Happy holidays, big guy!! Have a great weekend with the pups and fam. Abrazos!

You Too Masch…no holds barred this weekend, eat, drink and be fucking merry

STARR 5x5 WEEK 2 DAY 3 OF 3

I felt like Tony the Tiger today (grrreat). I decided that since Im so sleepy during the day I took one of these redline drinks at the gym and it gave me the pep I needed. I experimented with my stance on the squat and went wider, while it awakened my hips which were hella creaky I can see that once I get used to it, it will be the way to go. I also experimented with hand placement on the bench, pinkies on rings today and it felt very good. I also will alternate between supinated and overhand grip with the BB rows which felt better today as well. im growing to love flat benching, since Im benching w/o pain I find it a lot of fun.

Constructive Criticism?

Squats are good and low, Matty, congrats!!

Did I see you put effort in the last one? Come on . . . surely 290 wouldn’t throw a big guy like you?

What can I say Cav? Squats are a real weak point for me unfortunately, but I am getting better. My pressing is a strong point, but you gotta check out my toothpicks for legs, not a good look lol!

Cav, your comments often cause me to go hmmm…

Matty, when I went wider with my stance I went too heavy, too fast with the weight and tweaked a flexor that pissed me off for 3 weeks. If it was me I would stay moderate weight and multiple sets of three for a while.

I can see how that would happen, my hips were like WHAT THE FUCK when I went wider last week, unfortunately i’m doing a 5x5, so I may take it real slow with the heavy set…fingers crossed.

Oh right, forgot about 5 x 5.
Doing hip mobility and flexor stretches helped. Too bad I did it after the tweak rather than before. I found getting into a wide stance and doing some sets of body-weight squats everyday helped (really focusing on chest high and keeping my knees driven out).

No doubt Git, I do about 3-4 of DeFranco’s agile 8 before squatting, I will add in the BW squats as well. All in All however I was pleased with the form and the wide stance somehow aided in my back arch. Tomorrow is a relatively heavy squat day we will see

If you can pull the camera back a tad to get a better shot of your knees and legs we can offer better advice. Your back arch looks good from what I can tell which is definitely a good thing. Just how wide of a stance are you taking now?

Yeah it was kind of an impromptu recording, it was done on my phone. Ill try to get a better one later on today on my top set…earlier my width was a bit wider than shoulder now my toes are coming close to the sides of the cage…

Well unfortunately my holiday was not too merry. Lots of arguing on Christmas Eve with family members and shit snow balled and got out of hand. I played peace maker at the time, but did you ever have those instances in life where you think about what happened, what was said and you let that shit marinate in your head and you get angrier and angrier? I’m thinking about what was said and the disrespect that occurred that its taking every ounce of me not to go to my brother in laws house and make a bad situation worse. It is unfortunate that it happened so needless to say I needed to rid myself of some poison inside me today

Anyways…

tired.

The Brother in law situation is not worth it…Trust me you will get black balled for beating the shit out of him.

You were the better man in front of your Family esp your Wife and kid.

Sometime I train the same workout in a day to help with my anger issues.

Oh and Merry Christmas Matty.

Thanks Rick,

I needed someone to reinforce my decision to lay in the cut and play peace maker, hopefully this will die down, so ill try to let sleeping dogs lie,
