Damn Matty figured you would take a deload week after the meet.
Deload weeks are for the weak.
All joking aisde though I haven’t taken one after any of the meets I’ve done. In fact I tend to PR on one of the big three 2-3 days after a meet. I do hit a wall at the start of a following week but its not something you can’t push through.
Because of this I’m starting to think that while geared lifters might need that deload week raw lifters might not.
At least I don’t.
Interesting Joe.
That is why I love medicine you just cannot put everyone in a box, people respond different to stimuli.
You would have to agree though that a Deload is actually a good thing for long term success. Some of the most experienced PL’rs incorporate them.
I havent scheduled one pretty much since Feb of this year. My work seems to make me take one every 6-8 weeks cause I end up going out of town and just take it then.
I came back this week feeling a lot stronger and refreshed after taking off 5 days last week.
Oh sure and I’ll even admit I’m going to start doing the scheduled 5/3/1 deloads again. I’m curious to see if it makees a difference now that I’m a little stronger.
At this point I think the only thing I’m comfortable saying for certain is that nothing works for everyone and everything works for somebody.
Have to agree for sure with that last part.
You know after dropping 5/3/1 for most of this year and working on my athletic ability, and now just concentrating on a couple of the big 4…my strength is going up in those 2.
I know it was always said that after you lose your Newbie gains, you just cannot increase all 4 with the same level. Again everyone is different and some may. But when my squat was going up and I was concentrating on it more my DL stayed the same.
Anyway, I have an opportunity to play for a local Rugby team that have asked for me to join.
I think I want to do this, even though I have never played.
Even on 5/3/1 I’ve found something similar. If my upper body is moving up fast by lower slows to a crawl and vice versa.
Sorry I missed your birthday, hope it was great. When you goning to share the new ink?
Its funny you guys mention a deload, for me its mental, my body is screaming for a deload but mentally I just couldnt do it. I kinda had a deload before the meet. Also I am feeling what Alexus said she had heard, I have a bit of a cold and an overall general malaise, I slept like 11 hours today. So Im basically not listening to my body because Im an idiot.
I also think a deload every 4th week is a little bit much dont you think? I would think once every 8 weeks is more like it.
Thanks Dday, once its complete Ill definitley take a pic!
Rick, Im following your advice again and going with the Bill Star 5x5 Linear Progression method.
Hope you get over your cold soon. Myself, I found a deload about every 6 weeks seems to do it.

I like 6-7 weeks personally. But everyone is different Matty.
And in celebration of the awesomeness at the meet, I’ll bust out my favorite photo of Marry…
Dood, no one told me you competed. Looks like we both broke our PL meet virginity on the same day. High five?

OH shit bro, hells yeah!
Kent ha ha thanks man…I guess your coach is basically saying go on feel?
My word, I have to say that is my favorite picture as well, HOT-cha-cha!
Great videos, GREAT meet! You should be so proud of yourself. You’ve definitely inspired me.
Interesting talk about the de-load, I was having similar musings with myself this afternoon. My opinion…if your body is talking, I’d listen. You’ll come back stronger for it.
Happy be-lated birthday:D

Thanks so much! My body was screaming for deload this week, I have to train smarter, I just have to learn that sometimes backing off is the thing to do. Thanks for the kind words about the meet, I finally got my feet wet next meet I will be shooting beat my first showing significantly.
WEEK 1 DAY 3 BILL STAR 5X5
SQUAT 145/5 175/5 210/5 245/5 290/3 210/3
SS
DECLINE SITUPS 0/10 25/5 45/5
FLAT BENCH 135/5 170/5 205/5 240/5 280/3 205/8
SS
DB ROW 80/12 105/10,8
CGBP 225/10 155 W MONSTER MINI/12 (FRIED MY TRIS)
BB ROW 135/5 145/5 175/5 205/5 235/3 175/8
SS
FACE PULL STACK/12,12,12
BB SHRUG - 135/20 225/20 315/10 405/10,10 315/15
WEIGHTED SUPINATED CHINS - 0/8 25/5 45/5
BAND RESISTANCE CHINS - 45/5,5
Squatting remains a struggle, it started out well but my left side (lower back and glute) stiffens and starts to hurt. Bench felt great concentrated on tightness and leg placement I think I could of gotten 280 for 10. BB rows are really aggravating my elbows, I may switch to a yates style row to see if the supinated grip alleviates some pressure.

Tendinitis is wrecking my right bicep BB rows aggravate the shit out of em, I will bow out and sub db rows which give me no issues
That must have taken a couple of hours!!! Nice art.
Oh. And I recommend some self massage therapy for the bicep tendinitis. Take a doling pin, stick one handle into the slot in an open doorway, grab the other handle, and roll the dickens out of the offending arm. And about 20 fish oils caps a day.
