Why is your foot swollen?

I have no effing clue, Im actually walking with a limp right now its killing me, on my instep and top of my toes is giving me the most discomfort, I’m gonna ice it and keep it elevated and hopefully tommorow it will subside…the only thing I can think of is possibly the split squats but it didn’t bother me until today

Sounds like a strain for sure, how much were you doing on the split squats? To lazy to go look it up.

very light weight 135 tops…but it was the balancing that may have strained it?

Hell im in ! Could you give me a break down of the program?

split squats can put allot pressure on the back foot - if they are new to you

a few things on box squats from a non - power lifter

in no order of importance

speed kills- training the ox squat for speed did a ton for my ability to generate power
and move more weight quickly and not get stuck

once I acclimatized to lower bar wider stance - I progressed much faster
with higher weights

got in some much needed glute hip and Ham work
they seemed to put less pressure on my neck and traps- then other kinds of squat

they did bang up my hips

really I think they just helped me sit back - and get up faster

Hey Matty, I saw this article and thought you would like it.

Interesting, my foot feels fine today, but killed me yesterday…I guess it was the split squats.

Since WS calls for it, I will continue with them, I think they will be espescially helpful on the dynamic days, and for the reasons you mentioned I think will translate to the regular squat. Thanks bro.

Holy Shit! This absolutely destroys my thoughts of the carry-over of box to regular squat…he makes a ton of sense…Im also surprised wherein he states that he basically a proponent of divebombing the squat, this is very interesting and gives me a lot to consider, I appreciate this article James thanks a ton!

After reading the above mentioned article I wonder if westside is the right choice…super confused.

Dynamic Effort Upper

BENCH W MONSTER MINI 45% (weight,sets,reps) 1RM 155X10X3
JM PRESS 155X5X5 (Not sure if Im doing these right)
PULLUPS 3X5 (15)
FACE PULLS STACKX4X20

OTHER STUFF

DB INCLINES 100/12,10,10
SS
CS DB ROW 100/5,5,5

TATE PRESS 40/12 50/10,10
WEIGHTED PUSHUP 0/20 45/12,12

Notes: feeling pretty sick, sinuses are making me feel like my head is gonna explode like the guy in scanners…Im gonna go to sleep for another 12 hours. Session was shitty like my health right now.

I definitely did NOT mean to turn you off of Westside by any means and I really didn’t mean to add more confusion into the mix. It’s just another data point to consider is all.

Sucks about the sinus pain. I get that too every time we get a change in the weather. Is it allergies or a cold? I don’t think it was a bad session at all. Hell, you felt like crap but you went in anyway. Isn’t that what successful people do?

james

Good log, man.

James - No way man, I respect your opinion greatly and I am happy you brought it to my attention, the article makes good points as do you. But I am going to see Westside through and see how it goes. I am very flip floppy when it comes to this stuff and always confused so dont worry about confusing me lol! As far as the sickness it happens to me as well at the change in seasons, it starts out as allergies then morphs into some sort of sinus infection Im hoping the old adage of rest and liquids will do because I would hate to go on antibiotics as they always do a number on my strength levels and stomach!

Ghost - Thanks for stopping by bro. ANY time you want post of vid of the the Get Up Kids feel free, Im also a big fan of Bayside, like them much? Oh and BTW your gym is the tits, I would like it on FB but Im not on FB, but Ill tell my wife to like it for me!

Thanks for the compliments on the gym! We love it. I’ve never listened to bayside, i Have some friends who are into them, though. I should give em a try. Keep up the good work and stay jacked

Hope you’re rested up from your sinus troubles. Don’t worry about programs, just lift!

Hey Matty, the only two points to “worry” about in the article are 1. and 2.

In 1. he talks about ultra-wide squats to a box with a negative shin angle (something I can’t quite do BTW) not translating to a raw squat. The movement pattern isn’t the same as raw but it works the shit out of certain muscle groups that contribute to a raw squat. You can find vids of lifters in basically a sumo stance doing box squats; but you’re not doing that so don’t worry about it. Use the box for form and explosiveness from the bottom. My box squat and free squat foot placement is basically the same.

In 2. he talks about training quads. Westside is pretty light on direct quad training since most of the power is coming from glutes, hams and low back. But it’s easy to add in quad work on ME or DE days. I’m primarily doing front squats for this. And backward sled drags with a low body position hammer the quads. My quads are pretty fatigued the day after box squats so they get pretty good stimulation from that movement.

IMO, all systems work; 5/3/1, Juggernaut, Josh Strength, Westside, Sheiko etc. They are all more similar than they are different. Success is based more on commitment to the training approach than the system itself.

This concludes my preachy wall of text.
