WELL NOW I AM! LOL…
seriously yeah man Im pretty nervous, its a pretty big deal for me, I would like to think I just want to get numbers up, but honestly I want to break PRs in all 3 lifts!
Matty, my personal experience is that when I’m really nervous about performing (no, not that -I know you’re all set in that regard!..), I try to do a lot of mental visualization stuff before the event. Close your eyes, visualize yourself doing everything correctly and calmly!
Works wonders imo. Right before bed is a great time; if it amps you up too much, remember remaining calm is part of the practice. Just some thoughts…
Are the PL guys still training you? Do you intend a deload week before the meet?
What’s to worry about? All that could happen is you tripping, cracking your skull on the monolift, the crowd laughs, three red lights, and you’re banned from competition for life. It’s not as if anything bad might happen.
Seriously, though. On the morning of the contest, I gave serious thought to just staying home. Had to drag myself there. So glad I did. Watch the other lifters, a lot will lift less than you, some will flub it, and limp off the stage. You’re not going up against Dave Tate, you know.
Take wife with you, family, friends, anyone. Can’t take anyone? make friends with the other lifters. It’s incredible how everyone encourages each other. The friendly atmosphere is so relaxing. Got questions? It’s your first contest - no one expects you to know all. Find out as much as you can.
Warm up. Loosen up, lift light. Don’t wear yourself out in warmups.
If in doubt about weights, choose low instead of high. White lights are way more fun than red. You’re a strong SOB, you’ll do fine.
I remember when they finally called for the first flight to line up. I got in line. My heart starting beating faster - not arythmia. It was anticipation. And I lifted more than I dreamt I could.
And at the end of the day you’ll be saying “Why did I wait so long for a meet? I had a blast!!”
Hello sir!
doing good there matty!
you will get vids of your meet - right??
PG - Ha, I was like where is he going with this! That seems like a good mental exercise, I work nights so I have a good deal of down time at my job, at times I get stuck in a car for 6 hours and the mental imagery makes the time go by.
Cav - Thanks man, I hope your right! I am training alone, I love my boys down in Jersey it just became too much of a hassle to get down there…Im hoping to possibly meets some guys down there that can tell me of some local PL spots.
DJ - What up Bro…Im very happy you are starting to lift heavy shit again! you had me considering doing some of that stuff you called conditioning!
Alexus - HAI! Oh yes for better or worse there will be vids… I want you to know that your log has given me so much insight to oly lifting its ridiculous…your posts are so astute I really enjoy it, I just wish I could give some input!
SQUATS…ugh
WARMUP
FIRE HYDRANTS 2X10
BAND GMS 1X10
TORNADO 1X10
PULLAPARTS 2X10
SQUAT 135/10 225/5
SQUAT - 80% 1RM (275) (W,S,R) - 275X6X2
PAUSE SQUAT - 275X2X4
WG PULLUPS - 6X5 (30)
GM - 135/10 225/5,5 275/5,3
FACE PULL - STACK X 20 +25 X 15 +25 X 15
REVERSE HYPER - 3X10
DECLINE SITUPS - 1X10 25X2X10
LEG PRESS - 3PPSX3X15
NOTES: Again these squats are really helping me on form, a couple of those reps were perfect, albeit with lesser weight but Im attempting to hammer down the form so it becomes second nature. I have to consistently do gms, as they killed me this time. dont laugh about the paltry weight on the leg press!
Nice session, good work.
I like the mobility work
maschy- you ready for a metro card inspired road trip?
Figured out what your openers are going to be?
I have an idea. Everyone tell Matty about your first meet.
And don’t worry, Matty. The singlet doesn’t USUALLY split wide open during the squat . . . : )
Looking good broheim. Getting excited for the meet yet?

Cav - I thought I told you, my singlet is crotchless
Dday - Im more terrifed I would say ![]()
Beans - Well hello there sir! Jets are always on my mind like sex lol. Oh no man two 45s with 2 hands! Though I am gonna try two plates per hand now!

Okay, jesus christ. I was gonna say. I can BB’er swing up the 85’s no problem, my strict form raises start to break down somewhere in the 50’s… But two plates per hand would be total beast mode.
