Im not quite sure if i understand you… yeah people judge the sport etc but every sport out there gets some judgement and criticism… we just gota keep doing what we are doing and enjoying ourselves cuz thats what its all about at the end of the day.

Yeah ok i could have warn a t-shit but who really cares? Now not only do people get judged by outsiders that dont understand the sport, people like you (who is actually in the sport) are hating as well… im not sure about everyone else thats checking out this thread but im all about motivating people to achieve their goals and also being motivated my self through other people’s experiences, achievements and stories.

And in relation to your comments about the physique class… yes its a new thing, yes the lines of what judges are looking for are slightly blurred but hey! I, and the people in this class are doing something with our lifes and we enjoy it, im not sat at home watching tv and eating fast food, im not out causing trouble and im sure as hell not doing something that is hurting other people so why judge? i have respect for anyone out there that actually gets off their ass and does something with their life. Im sick of people like you judging and placing criticism on people that are having fun/doing something they are passionate about.

So please, if you have nothing nice to say dont say anything at all.

You say you may not understand me, let me explain further. My post is not a knock on you personally or your physique…by all accounts you seem like a cool guy. It is just sometimes we inside this weird sport can lose perspective and get wrapped up in your own little world. Its not a team sport, in fact it is a very self-centered activity. When I was younger I also got caught up in the whole thing but now realize motivating people by saying hey look at me may not be the best course of action and in reality it really is self-serving, not as altruistic as you are stating.

As far as the Physique class, I understand your position. I can imagine its certainly not the first time you have defended it’s existence vs bodybuilding etc. It has expanded the tent on the number of competitors at shows on all levels and is much more inclusive than bodybuilding. My views on the class is not an examination of Jordan Metcalfe, just an observation from another set of eyes.

Good luck!
My apologies for the over reaction… Yeah i get were you are coming from.

Cheers for your input mate

First off, good luck Jordan. It’s a lot of work getting ready for a contest, and I fully understand how stressful it can be at times.

The whole physique thing,… I see a lot of different attitudes about it here in the states, especially where I am, on the east coast. Lots serious meatheads in the NY/NJ area, and I guess they feel that the newer division has sort of watered down the requirements to get up onstage. Personally, I have a couple of friends at my gym who compete in physique, and I know that they train quite hard and are just as serious about their competitions as I would be about my own. As such, I give them nothing but respect. Still, I think everyone will agree that the judging standards are all over the place for Physique.

Of my two friends, one wanted to do bodybuilding for years, but his lagging leg development held him back. He did a few NPC Physique shows, placed top 3 in all of them, even had the judges approach him afterward top give him advice and he was actually embarrassed by his ‘success’. The other one is a typical high school/college kid who has an ‘okay’ physique, but when clothed, you wouldn’t even know he trains. To see his contest pics, he looks good, and should be very proud of himself. However to see him in person (now always adorned with the latest GASP apparel, and giving out advice left and right), it’s a very different picture.

So I can understand the view some people have about the classes. Especially if you’ve ever seen an IFBB Pro physique show. The competitors fall into the same two classes: could be bodybuilders if they worked harder, and swimsuit models. It’s not a bad thing, it’s simply a different end goal for the training. If the judges could ultimately decide which one they actually wanted, I think a lot of the fuzziness about the sport would clear up.

Best of luck!

Funny you don’t ever ask Zraw this question.
Physique guys have it tough.

Also, if you are going to post an 11 minute video talking about your supplements, its okay to do it with a shirt on.

Again, physique guys have it rough.
lol

Would it have been acceptable if he was doing a bobybuilding comp and he was topless?

Koing
Not at all. Bodybuilding, powerlifting etc all suffer from a “hey look at me” mentality. Now, given there is always going to be a large amount of that because of the nature of the sport, it is easy to look like a douche bag e.g. making a video talking about your supplements while intentionally being shirtless, even a tank top would have been a bit better. If he is posing then okay fine, but it comes off poorly otherwise.

The reason why I say Physique guys have it tough is that it is pretty new and they are still kind of figuring out what the hell it is and what the judges are actually looking for. Also, the ‘posing/modelling’ has the same strange effect, like what the hell? Now, flexing in speedos is weird also, but the focus on the hair, teeth, abs etc makes Physique a strange division viewed from a bodybuilding perpective. I understand the intention of the division and it seems to have quickly grown, but it’s ranks seem to be full of Jersey Shore types.
Understood.

Yeah mate I totally get were you are coming from, and I guess it does allow smaller guys or guys with no lets to compete… at the moment anyway.

I want to take my passion for fitness, bodybuilding and the gym to the top level and the physique class seems to work in with my goals perfectly. Its also the type of physique I like the best (However I will always have a love for the big guys… the effort, determination and passion motivates me like crazy)
I guess all we can do is sit and wait to see how it all pans out, if I donâ??t like the way it goes then theres nothing stopping me from changing classes ï??

Cheers for your input, its good hearing different peoples experiences and knowledge about the class (or any of the classes for that matter)

no matter what anyone else says Jordz, I think you’re adorable

Hey guys,

Just uploaded my 7 week out progress video

You say on your youtube page that you’re 5’ 10"? Is that considered tall in the IFBB physique category? Am I missing something?

Excuse me if this comes off as a rather ignorant question. I know nothing of IFBB height classifications. It’s just that being 6’ 9" myself, 5’ 10" seems rather small to me.

Good work Jordan, looking right on schedule! One thing I would consider tinkering around with and seeing if you like the look better: on your physique “back pose,” try putting one hand on your hip while spreading your lats, like in the front and side poses. Judges are looking for more of a relaxed, “swagger” type look…the lat spread variation that you are presently using looks a little too stiff or robotic for physique in my opinion, it might look like a relaxed bodybuilding pose to the judges

Hey Mate,

Haha yeah I thought the same when getting into the sport… I definitely don’t consider my self tall however the physique class is split into 2 sections in IFBB, shot category (anyone under 174cm) and tall category (anyone over 174cm). Im around 176 so that puts me into the tall…

No problem man, I made plenty of stupid mistakes during my first contest that I’m happy to help others avoid

Hey guys,

Will be making my 6 week out progress update over the next few days but in the mean time here is a shot of my legs… I remember people asking to see them a while back.

Definitely my weakest body part but been smashing them like crazy

OMG, we have the same shoes!

Looking good, could do with some more calves IMO.

Yeah, obviously if we’re gonna hold ya to bodybuilding standards they’re fairly weak, but again, this is physique, so a different set of proportions apply (plus those huge board shorts cover up a hell of a lot). Calves definitely need some tending to. I know this is always a difficult and common issue, but hopefully over time your smashing approach will bring things up to par.

Good conditioning.

Hey guys,

Just released my latest update  made quite a few changes this week so basically just touching on them.

Thumbs up on the addition of tank tops.

Overall respectable physique, legs are kind of weak, but theyll be covered.

What about calves though? Definitely your weakest body part, better beat the shit out them things.

Hey bro,

Yeah calfs im hitting 4 days per week, because of the fiber type and fast recovery i train them a lot more often.

yeah a smash them! high intensity, different angles

I don’t recall if you mentioned this or not, but do you do any rolling, or Myofacial work on your calves? When I started really digging into my quads before leg sessions it really made a difference once I got onstage.
