If You're Not Lean Under 200 Lbs....

This has been a problem for me quite a few times. People are always quick to assume that you are just another regular joe going to the gym for shits and giggles, and that you don’t try hard enough.

Hey carlito, you got a link or can u PM me it to that dante thread. I think that guy is one of the most interesting guys at the moment. Be interested to hear some other stuff.

OP - post some damn pictures or GTFO.

Oh and im not 200lbs and lean… BUT i dont wanna be that big.

I wanna be at least 250 and lean. Like Dave_ did. Im going to try and employ the g-flux principle, which is basically what dante is saying. Eat shit loads, excercise shit loads, to burn the excess whilst still gaining weight.

CarlitosWay, good posts. Thanks for that info, it’s always nice to see it laid out so simply. Props

I would say it depends on the individual. I don’t look skinny fat at 18%.

But then again, I’m 235. If I was 170 and my height with 17-18% I would tend to agree with you.

So I guess, I agree with you LOL.

That would be because 99% of the time that IS the issue. Do you know how many times I have literally had a discussion with someone IN the gym where they tell me how hard they lift only to actually work in with them on some exercises and find out they aren’t pushing anywhere near the level they THINK they are?

I would venture that most people who claim they see minimal progress THINK they are training hard…simply because they don’t have enough experience around serious trainers to know the difference.

Either way, I believe it when I see it.

This guy has shown NO pictures of his progress.

We should all be asking WHY at this point.

If you train hard, it shows in your physique…unless your genetics truly suck ass for this.

And I’ve done everything you quoted from Dante, except the thermogenics. Nothing beyond pretty standard advice there. [/quote]

What are you saying you haven’t followed his protein intake protocol?

Pictures speak volume. How about posting some buddy? I think you’re cutting yourself short not letting us see what’s going on exactly. I’ve seen your numbers and most of them looked pretty damn good. So maybe you’re being a bit to hard on yourself? and just “think” your fat gain is a bigger issue than it really is.[/quote]

Yes I am saying I followed his protein “protocol”, which is just 2g/lb. I’m doing close to that now (1.9g/lb or so)

And I have no recent pictures.

Have you considered what I said earlier about stress being a big limiting factor (i.e. causing lower T-levels and more fat gains etc)?

Most people on here have said that you aren’t pushing hard enough etc, but it could be the reverse. Many know how to push forward, but have no clue about when to “pull back”.

I know you say that you’re not talking just about yourself, but when you said that when you “gave up cardio”, and saw little difference, it could be that you were overly stressed (you were fighting a losing battle against your hormones). That of course doesn’t mean that one has to drastically decrease workload (as long as diet is ok); it just means that you need to know at what point to “take it easy” so that you’re body can catch up/overcompensate and hormones can get back into balance.[/quote]

I must have missed your post about that. Well, strength is going up so it seems I’m generally recovering…I also tend to have a deload week after every 4-5 weeks. I do tend to stress though, and my sleep kind of sucks since I wake up 1-2x/night, I often have to sleep for 30min. or so during the day.

lol you’re one to talk, you’ve been a member for 8 years and only recently put up pictures. Now you call out everyone who doesn’t have pictures.

As for the intensity, obviously I can’t show you. But if I’m pushing the weight and my face is beat red and the weight is just barely getting up, how is that not intense?

And regarding your comment about having trained for 5 years and not being a lean 200lb. yet, after how many years would say you that should have been accomplished? Rough estimate.

Oh and why, can i ask, is this guy part of t-cell alpha. I contribute actual advice where is see fit, whether it be from experience or from info i read. I may not be big, but im putting in the effort everyday, making consistent progress, so…wheres my invite??

By the end of the year. I want to be part of t-cell. Not to gloat, but to participate in threads which dont fall apart because of continued trolling attempts, or people who, regardless of their achievements, lack common sense and an ability to filter all the bullshit present on here and available on the internet.

Complete and utter bullshit. That pic of me from 2001 when I weighed 210lbs was first posted on this site IN 2001. I remember many acting like I couldn’t be natural and even more acting like the weight I listed as what I use for alternate dumbbell curls was impossible. I have been on this site since 2000 which means I was one of the first to put a picture of myself up long before there were forums dedicated to just that.

My pic was on this site long before there was a RMP forum so how about you get your facts straight. Out of most here I have shown my progress over the last 9 years at least even showing pics when at my absolute fattest only to be called out by clueless individuals and trolls constantly.

If you can find one person here who has provided more advice and shown more progress than I have aside from people who work for the company I would be very surprised.

I couldn’t give a shit how red your face is. That doesn’t mean you are training anything like the guys actually seeing progress.

You want a guideline to go by? Follow Kingbeef’s progress because he is almost exactly where I was after the same time lifting even though he is naturally leaner than me and watches his diet closer than I did as a beginner.

I let many people in and a very minimal number later show they aren’t living up to what many of us consider serious training. As of now, most of the people I let in either already have pics up or they are being harassed to do so very quickly.

With as few people here who actually seem to have the drive for this, you guys can’t expect every single member to be up to that standard. Some of the guys I let in were because I WAS HOPING they would see better progress in that environment…but many of them suck too.

Considering i started training properly when i joined T-Nation (a huge source of inspiration and information), i was at 155lbs when i joined [dec '08], 160lbs [march 09] the next year, now 190lbs [mar '10], soon to be 210lbs [end of june '10] and hopefully 220lbs and leaner by the end of the year [through reduced carbs, whilst still in a caloric surplus].

If ended up trimming some fat, i could be lean and 200lbs by the end of year so that took me 2 years. So there you have it. 2-3 years depending on where you started.

Try goal setting. Shoot for a weight. Maintain and clean up the diet. Shoot for the next weight. Maintain… etc. Sure gains will slow. But u adjust accordingly and keep slogging away at it. Bodybuilding takes decades to achieve a ‘super’ physique, if u dont have that ambition, why are you on bodybuilding forum – if you do… then read info, filter info, apply info, adjust.

Completely understand, and hence why, people should have to prove achievements and drive through vids, pics and numbers. From there, membership should be considered. When im there, ill hit you up with some progress shots and we’ll take it from there.

Hopefully by the time im there, the no. of people ruining it for everybody would have dwindled (either through boredom or through action from the mods) and itll be a huge pool of info to utilise rather than abuse. Cheers buddy

Since then, my pic has been used as my avatar countless times.

Your move Pumped.

Hahahaha thats the one they put the ‘Mr. T’ mohawk on. Classic. Just goes to show what consistency, intensity and dedication does for ya.

Lol, the second I read pumped340s last post I started to feel bad about how wrong he was.

At 6ft tall I’d also expect you’d be able to reach a lean 200 by about 2-3 years as well. I’ve been lifting 18 months (July 08).

By my 5th year, I’d be disappointed if I wasn’t a lean 220 with abs clear showing (not just outline), very defined 18" arms (genetically my weakest part) and benching over 400 lbs. Which, right now , I’m on track to hit between my 3rd and 4th year if I stay healthy.

Hahaha whoops. Just realised i put 2008 on it. Its meant to be 2009. And the next is meant to be 2010 (as in yesterday) Haha.

Definately bro. Thats what im aiming for too. Im going from what others say. If your between 5’10" – 6’2". It should take you about 3-4 years to achieve 18" arms. Im hoping for 3.

I’d always wondered the same thing. I’d see a couple of guys post in the cell and think “damn, how’d they get in over me?”. I have the same goal of somehow managing to get in this year because some of those threads are goldmines and I’d love to contribute.
