This is the reason why there are 50 million federations… because squatting is stupid.

Deadlifting is the curl of the lower body exercises.

Fixed. No need to thank me, just pay it forward

GOOD ANALOGY
LAST WEEK I REALIZED THAT MY ARCH MAKES IT WHERE I CAN NOT LIFT THE BAR OFF THE RACK[/quote]
haha same here dude, when i pull my shoulders back i cant get it off the rack… im a little short too ;). thats when i have my spotter pull it out for me.

Now its fixed.
Walkout has always been the hardest part for me (no acl in left knee)…my best walked out was 545 in single ply @ 220. In the same gear I did 600 out of the monolift. Walkouts scare the shit out of me. I was spotting/loading at Joe Ladnier’s meet when TJ Hoerner was trying 804 @ 148 and he couldn’t get set up right out of the monolift…so on his 3rd attempt he takes it out narrow stance and then slowly widens his stance. My asshole was puckered the whole time! Gary Frank also had balance issues out of the monolift at that meet.
Just like anything you have to train with a monolift to get the most use out of it. I don’t like some of the insanely wide stances that can be achieved out of a monolift…but I am not a big fan of sumo DL either for same reason (it is okay for chicks to pull sumo though)

Lol so it’s bad to take advantage of leverages?
Squats should only count if there is a judge lying underneath of you.

Yes. Taking advantage of one’s genetics is a heinous crime that should be punishable by death and/or expulsion from one’s chosen fed. Unless you compete in the SPF, where anything goes.

Sounds reasonable. The WTF could be formed (world teabagging federation). No contact, no white lights.
Squat however you want to squat in or on and in whatever you want to squat in, just don’t shit on people who like to do it differently. I think if everyone stopped saying "I have a world record in [insert whatever the federation here] or I squat the most (in a super wide stance off a mono-lift in a canvas suit and nuclear powered knee wraps) so clearly I am stronger than Misha squatting 340kgX3 completely raw, people just need to be able to respect whatever way other lifters are doing it and stop bitching and moaning, sure some guys do maybe-parallel 1200lbs squats and to me thats damn impressive and some guys do near 800 totally raw high bar close stance, both are still damn impressive, the problem lies with people arbitrarily assigning one as more impressive it’s just a different form of application for strength. It’s cool with me so long as they like to squat.
I lift raw because that’s how I like to do it, if a guy totals more than me at the same weight in gear, great for him, I am still happy lifting raw.
Gonna go do widowmakers now and drink milk. Have a nice day.

The problem with this way of thinking is that you actually have to respect the sport. You would have to respect those people that actually get stronger, regardless of what kind of gear or federation, meet after meet.
No one wants to do this. They would much rather bitch and complain and push their version of what they think the sport should be. “Its only real lifting if its raw” or “I only lift in gear.” It doesnt fucking matter. If you are weak and don’t get stronger, you are dead fucking wrong. I would much rather hear what a guy in triple ply and breifs does if his squat has improved 100lbs in a year than some raw guy who has been scoring the same weight for 5 years.
It’s not the gear that ruins this sport. It’s the athletes. For the most part, all the people that bitch arent strong. If you are one of these people and try to force your opinion on how a strength sport should be, then you have zero respect from me.
Anyway, Bear Born, I completley fucking agree.

Its not that I won’t squat. It’s that I think people who bitch about depth, gear, monolifts, etc. are weak and are looking for excuses.
By the way, I have MD state raw record for junior raw squats, 670 at 275. Thats pre-broken back though. I can’t even get that in full gear now.

I was teasing you. I agree with what you said. Lift how you want in whatever fed you want. Personally I don’t squat or pull much raw at all anymore because it kicks the shit out of my middle aged hips.
Can’t believe you didn’t put your weightlifting before being a Mum.

Probably me since my avatar has mom written on it. I like to think I have put my training before my kids since I sold then for a kick ass custom suit.

I think it’s a difference between beginner/intermediate strength levels and advanced strength levels. For beginner/intermediate lifters the squat is the harder part. For advanced lifters, the walk out is the hardest part because it’s a few multiples of your BW. The more over your BW you’re walking out the harder it is to control it. Once you get that weight moving to walk it out, it wants to keep moving.

I’m not sure whether you’re talking about just geared or both raw and geared, but I disagree (at least as far as unequipped goes). Maybe it’s because part of my strongman training is the yoke walk, where you’re walking w a weight far in excess of what you could squat, but while a walkout w maximal weight may be difficult, it’s nowhere near as difficult as squatting it.

I’ll be interested to hear his response but my belief is that it applies to geared lifters. The addition of gear enables you to squat weights far in excess of what you’d be able to squat raw and the ‘sticking’ point swings towards walking it out. Like WIG stated, you usually applies to advanced lifters. I can still walk out a crap load more than I can squat.
