I’m 45, benching 300 trying to get to 315, I’m 5”8 and weigh 225. I put on the weight to help with the bench. Now I feel I’m too big and want to drop some pounds. Any opinions or thoughts on 16/8 IF and gaining a 315 bench.
Maybe hit the 315 first and then lose weight? You’re so close.
Or is this just for the challenge?
I.F. will nearly double your chances of heart disease.
bench 330 for singles with a slingshot for a few weeks.
remove slingshot with 315 on the bar.
enjoy your pr
Just for the challenge. I’m not getting younger also my job has weight requirements
I’ve never heard of this.
Whats does your Bench program look like?
Apparently some new study from god knows where by god knows who came to that conclusion recently.
It was a little story in the news Monday.
At this point, I’d say it’s still controversial and not accepted as “fact.”
Personally, I’m not super into fasting, so my post was kind of a joke. But lots of dudes do it and like it, so don’t let some nonsense stop you.
Well I do the 531 for the bench on Monday then 5 sets of 10 on bench of 1/2 one rep calculated max which would 150 right now. Then close bench grip bench 5x10 at 115 pounds then I hit tri pull downs with v bar starting at 40 then going to 160 increasing by 20 pounds all reps here are AMRAP. Then I do the same with the double rope thing.
Ha, got ya. I had success with it about 4 years ago but wasn’t trying to be strong just cut. Now I want to be strong at 45 and didn’t care what I was looking like, but even though the bench is the highest it’s been in about 18 years, which eating has helped no doubt I put on too much weight and want to lose.
Lets not let this Sling Shot advice get lost in the shuffle.
@throwawayfitness has used the Sling Shot longer and more consistently than almost anyone, and this is the first time I’ve heard him say much about it.
Max Bench +10% x singles?
10-20% is the manufacturers claim.
It is how I hit 315 the first time.
I got to the point where wearing it I could hit 315x3.
One day I did the usual 315x3, and got up to take it off, and it was in the chair still. I forgot to put it on.
Watched the video, and sure enough 315x3 no SS
You get used to handling heavier weight than you could without it. When you don’t use it, you feel used to it already.
There is a study about the 10% claim
Great Post!
So you used the supportive gear, and you were stronger when you took it off! That’s what Louie Simmons always said about lifting equipment. Its cool that you were able to verify it! “Forgetting” to put the Sling Shot on was like a Blind Trial or something.
That study is also interesting!
Its crazy that the emg test showed less muscle activation, but the real results showed you got an awesome workout.
Regarding that IF study, this is the part that stood out the most:
To make all of this more absurd, the only publicly available data on this study was the ABSTRACT.
This was a poster presentation from the AHA conference.
As in an actual cardboard poster.
I wish the news media was even half as interested in my science fair projects when I was a kid.
