I used to train in home many years,i feel i am attracting some attention and like people dislike me

This seems a little paranoid my friend. You are making up a story in your head about what other people are thinking of you.

But what if the story you told yourself sounded more like this:

“Seems like people are noticing me. Maybe it’s because I’m new here, and they’re used to seeing the same old crowd at about the same time every day.”

This is a much healthier story and it’s likely the truth. People notice new lifters.

But trust me, it’s completely normal to feel out of place when you’re new at a gym. The fastest way to not feel out of place is to show people that you’re friendly. You don’t even have to talk, but if you notice someone glance your way, just nod or smile to show that you’re comfortable with them noticing you.

And then you’ll be just like this:

Nobody is thinking poorly of you unless you’re doing something outrageously impolite… and you probably aren’t.

OK,i am actually quite weird and i move fast and only lift one heavy set,one moderate and the rest is light weight.I felt like the counter person don’t like me because i never greet them but i try to say bye everything i go out.

He got angry at me,and i always avoid him.In the end, still clashes, and it’s very “hot” when two person is working out hard in a small space. It doesn’t help we are in the same workplace for 12hr lol

i am kind of fit but my face is chubby(because of bulking) and honestly i am only moderately looking if i rate my face, furthermore i am quite short at below 5ft7 if you understand

what’s the ideal solution actually, because i am new in the gym??And i might lack awareness meaning even though i clean the bench, but it might smell like shit that i didn’t realize.I do use their sanitizer and cloth, but i thought whenever i am there for this month, the cloth always are not there.Didnt happen the previous month though…strange.

A short, sweaty guy running between pieces of equipment and lifting frenetically.

Maybe you do stick out a little.

I gotta say, I expected an ever-expanding mass of butt stuff related posts to be crammed into this discussion.

I feel like you think you are more significant to other people than you actually are.

Keep your focus, make progress towards your goals, and earn the respect of other members.

Take a shower before and after. Don’t wear cologne.

Keep your earphones in, don’t monopolize equipment, if someone is rude to you, just shrug it off.

yes.I think i am new that’s why, maybe if i go there for a few more months then my thinking will change

I make it a habit to always take a clean towel with me to the gym. “The cloth always are not there” isn’t an excuse, IMO, bring your own clean towel (or two.)

I wouldn’t be very welcoming to you if your sweat was consistently on every piece of equipment you leave. That is just plain nasty.

the towel is for your body and not the bench, because to clean the bench the gym should provide those cloth and sanitizer normally

Maybe in this post-Covid world you have a point. Then bring a BIG cloth with you to wipe off your sweat. It is just common decency. Or do you want to be despised by others? You definitely have the correct attitude to get there.

I am not at all flexible on this issue, and I assure you that you would not have lasted long at most of the gyms I worked out through the years.

I think you’re observing the phenomenon that occurs when a group of people amass over an activity that can be “enjoyed” on an individual level.

We find out some people enjoy this activity because they’re not able to function well among a group.

I mean, you’re not wrong, but he’s right.

And we need @bulldog9899 to post his trademarked popcorn gif.

  1. Don’t stink.

  2. Don’t make wierd noises.

  3. Don’t high-five yourself after a good set.

If all of those are in order, you should be fine.

We respect you so none of us did it.

When in Rome, do as the romans do. Normal politeness is never wrong in any aspect or setting. You should greet the owner/staff without being asked to. Also, a nod or smile for fellow trainees, is recommended when not in a set - if needed.

How you train is entirely your own business, as long as you respect the above mentioned. You can train or behave “outside of the box” at the gym, if you do it with awareness of others present.

Take pride in training hard, but there is much to learn from others if you dare to open up. I have made good friends at the gym over the years.
