Alright, I started serious lifting last September. I began at 128 lbs, and now I’m at 150 lbs, and still continue to bulk. My bench is 165, deadlift is 225, and squat is 255. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.
However, today I was told that I can’t do my regular strength training program at this Gold’s Gym that I go to because I scare the customers/make them stare at me. WTF I was so pissed and still am. It’s not like I’m some weight lifting freak. But c’mon.
but realy they probably all got together with thier decaf cofees and talked trash about your form and one of them got his balls together and told you to stop but he didnt feel like telling you the real reason. talk to the manager
if the manager tells you to stop training like that burn the gym down to the ground…
It’s deff not cause of my form, because I squat my ass to ground every rep. I’m not trying to make myself look like I’m a “badass” or anything. I’m just frustrated that the women pt said that the machine exercises were better for me than doing the freeweight 'cause freeweights are too dangerous for the average person.
Then she continues to train her client, by making her do lateral raises on those half swiss balls. Somehow I think she doesn’t know what a squat is, let alone what squat form is.
I just wanted to post this topic, if anybody else has similiar experiences. I don’t want to offend anyone, or have people start flaming me 'cause the post seem that I was trying to be some kind of badass. My bad?

Both. Apparently ever since I started the Advanced Ian King Upper/Lower program, the progressive use of heavier weights I guessed has made a few of the old ladies working on the leg extension machines a bit uncomfortable. Haha.
The PT told me to cut back on down these exercises becase I can’t for the sake of her clients being scared I guess? That’s more or less what she said. I guess doing 10 lb lateral raises on half swiss ball, while have some kid wave load his squats is a bit…weird?
Yeah, I’ve heard “You’re scaring the customers” at a couple of gyms. Believe me, you had better start looking for a new gym. Eventually you are going to get asked to leave.
It happened to me at Bally’s and another local gym. But, I was better off, I found a hardcore gym that has big guys, lifting westside style, and I couldn’t be happier. Dumbells up to 200, 3 power racks, and a monolift!
I don’t understand why these threads keep popping up. So some dumb broad told you that squats were bad or something to that effect. Big deal!
I think everyone can agree that if you train in a commercial gym you will witness a lot of bullshit. The longer you are around, the more shit you’ll see.
Most people are very uninformed when it comes to training. But that doesn’t mean someone has to start a new thread every few days telling everyone how some stupid trainer told them free weights are bad.
And what is the deal with everyone constantly clarifying that they squat “ass to grass” every rep? Are your asses really hitting the ground? If they are, throw some weight on the bar and come up after you drop below parallel.

Cool story. If more people spent time looking for a real gym than bitching about the commercial gyms they currently train at, there would be much more bigger and stronger people around.
I know not everyone is fortunate to have a real gym in there area, but people would be surprised if they looked around.

Maybe your 165pound bench was scaring the customers. Or perhaps the Olympic bars were bending from the super-heavy squats and deads. Or the deadlifts were threatening to smash the floor.
Ask them why they have free weights if they don’t want people using them.
Then tell them to mind their own business (well, I guess that’s what they’re doing, literally, but still…) you should have just as much right to do your workout as the middle aged cardio bunnies have to do their workout.
Yea, the best bet is probably to find another gym, but if you’re up for a long, drawn out “fight” that you don’t have a great chance of winning, you could try to complain that you’re being singled out, ostracized and harassed for having a different workout than what they’re used to, and you’re paying your membership just like anyone else.

Good post. It made me laugh. I have been trying to get heavier on my squat so I am adding weight quickly and I noticed I may not be hitting parallel, or a little below.
So I asked my wife to spot me. On like rep 3 (I aim for failure at 5-7)I failed and could not get past parallel. She tried to help, but it was a struggle for even the both of us. LOL, I was pretty much yelling too.
Anyhow, I agree, throw some weight on the bar and come up after you drop below parallel.

This isn’t a true post is it really?[/quote]
It can’t be. Some 150lbs guy gets told he is scaring the other lifters and he thinks it isn’t because he is training like a dumbass? This can’t possibly be real.
