Great site!
One thing I noticed is the protein requirements aren’t always met with complete protein sources (e.g. beef vs peanuts). i.e. in low carb mode, it made 3 meals for me with just peanuts (lol). Maybe a tick-box option for the user? e.g. “Use complete protein only”
Also, an option for meal replacements would be good (protein shake with carbs/fats etc). So kind of like the food choices menu, but with shakes too.
Keep up the good work!
I dont know if this bug has been mentioned, but it wont let me go over 2000 cals per meal.

This is definitely something I’ll need to consider once I finish curating this usda food database. Once I have foods classified by a basic category I’ll be able to sort out which proteins are coming from where.

The 2000 calorie limit is intentional - The generator makes the meals one by one and it’s much faster with lower calorie values. You can get around this by generating more meals than you want and then combining them in sandbox mode.
I should be finished making user accounts / grocery lists in the next day or two, and then I’ll work on improving the generation algorithm.

That was more meant as a joke. Cool program

haha my bad. I know I’ve been spending too much time on this site when wanting to eat more than 2000 calories/meal doesn’t seem too unreasonable.
Having used your project a bit, I’m nothing but impressed!
It’s really helpful, works well, and now it has quite a professional look to it as well.
To add some constructive feedback though: You wrote in the FAQ that you’re working on it; but adding the possibility to add custom foods I think should be priority number one. It’s essentially what keeps me from using this to generate my diets.
Anyway, keep up the good work! ![]()
Great great job!!! Fantastic idea.
I agree regarding the custom food option. It is a Definite necessity.
Thanks for the hard work. I will spread the word
Hey guys, I just updated the site earlier today and I’d love to get your feedback. I updated the first post, but I’ll write it here too:
UPDATES (3/10/12):
I totally failed to follow through on the more frequent updates thing, but I finally made another update today. I finished adding a food database, you can add custom foods, decide which foods the generator picks in each meal, and change the units for each food. You can also add foods, lock them in place, and then use the generate function as an “autocomplete.”
It’s come a long way since I started a year ago, and it’s finally becoming a pretty reasonable diet planner. You guys were my initial inspiration, so it’d be great if I could get your continued feedback. Try it out and let me know what you think!
Awesome!
Too bad you can’t make a buck off that, PapaBear.

Haha, don’t worry. I’m working on some business models to keep the site afloat.
minor update to make myself feel better about bumping this — now you can use metric units by default in the options menu. If the food it’s about to generate uses ounces or cups or w/e, it just converts it to a similar amount of grams and uses that.
Holy shit this is fuck!ng cool!
Dude… you do realize that this has the potential to make A LOT of money right…???
This last update was a long time coming, but I just launched a new version at http://www.eatthismuch.com/ . The biggest change is a much more intelligent algorithm, recipes, and more extensive food options. Also, I attempted to implement a business model! Give it a try and let me know what you think. At the moment, the recipe selection is a bit limited, but as people enter more of their own I’ll add them to the pool of recipes the generator draws from. So if you have some decent recipes (especially simple ones), please enter them with some decently written directions.
Try it out and give me your feedback!

Looks fantastic!
Would you be willing to add an option that excludes wheat from the diet? I tried eliminating bread and all grains but rice, then re-generating the diet, but it gave me a recipe that included wheat flour. It was vegetarian lasagna.

Thanks! And yeah, it looks like there are some issues with my food filtering that I need to fix asap
Food filter issues should be fixed for the most part. That and I added a reset button in case anyone gets an error where the initial macronutrient options are set too low to even generate once.
PapaBear great work. Check your pm.
Making a diet plan is the most easy task in diet planning, but the most difficult task in this is to follow that diet plan honestly.
