I Made a Diet Generator. Check it Out

This is awesome.

Hey everyone, I just finished a pretty big update with a food sandbox mode. You can generate a meal plan with the generator and then send it to the sandbox mode for editing with a drag and drop interface.

I’ve got a pretty extensive timeline of updates to make, the soonest probably being the ability to add your own custom food objects, followed by better generated diets, vegetable recommendations based on micronutrients, and a better saving/account system. Metric units will have to be thrown in there somewhere too. Let me know if you have any feedback on the changes, especially if anything doesn’t work for you. I haven’t even tested it in internet explorer, so I’ll probably get on that in the morning.

Hey man, this kicks ass, great job!

You mention that you’re going to add the ability for users to create custom foods. Would it be possible to add all the custom foods to the existing food database?

This obviously creates risk in people entering inaccurate macro profiles but it would be neat to be able to query ‘athenos vanilla greek yogurt’ and have it pop up without having to enter it.

Thanks

you rock

Holy hell. I would pay for this if you marketed it. Excellent work!

been using this. thanks for making it man!

Excellent. Very good. Very useful.

Good work - this will be ultra useful for a lot of people!

this is great. could you please also add grams/ml instead of just oz, cups tbsp etc.?

There needs to be a way to lock a ‘meal’ instead of a particular food.

[edit]: Nevermind, worked my way around that. I can’t find anything wrong with it.

Although I showed my girlfriend and she said there isn’t enough food choices.

(but when she asked me to make her diet, she wasn’t happy until I said she could eat whatever she wanted but stay under 1200 calories…)

I just uploaded another update to the site, lemme know what you guys think.

In the next few weeks I’m gonna finish incorporating the rest of the USDA food database and have user accounts set up. Soon after that I’m hoping to have it set up so you can generate a grocery list from a handful of saved diets. I’ll post about it here when I update, so check back every now and then!

PapaBear -

Nice interface! Now, some geek questions:

What did you use to generate the pie chart graphics? Is this totally JS driven? What are you using on the backend-- PHP/MySQL?

Very well done.

It’s all JS atm except for the food database using php/mysql. Doing all of the calculations client side makes it very cheap to run

Curious what you’re using to generate the pie charts. Third party JS library? Service?

The free version of http://www.jscharts.com/, though maybe an older version? My library doesn’t force the watermark like the site says it does.

Amazing - as a beginner it makes you realise just how much food is needed too! It does come up with some weird combinations sometimes but playing around with it for a while can overcome that. I love it. Thanks for spending the time to make something so awesome.

Like it’s been said already, you NEED to sell this thing as an app. Hell I’d buy it!

yo really loving the site! thank you so much for all your hard work!

Get something in there so you can customise your own foods and it’d be helpful to have an option to have measurements in grams, millilitres as well, looks really good

Great job, PapaBear!

But can you add pancakes and waffles to the Carb list?

Thanks!
