I Made a Diet Generator. Check it Out

I updated the first post, but to bump the thread:

In a weird attempt to make the output more customizable, you can now lock foods in place and randomize around them. Clicking the box to the left of the food will lock it in place. It’s not super robust yet, so a lot of locking may cause the script to hang if it’s having trouble finding a good meal output.

I haven’t really tested it for bugs a whole lot, so if you find anything, let me know. The locking image for some reason doesn’t update right away in internet explorer, and the site still doesn’t work at all in IE9.

I don’t want to clutter your protein options, but I eat plenty of braised beef cuts such as chuck roast and roast chicken or chicken thighs.

Where’s the bacon? This is a staple of any bulking, cutting, or maintenance diet!

PapaBear…

Fantastic!! Very well done. Works fine with Opera.

If you could find a way to add more common foods that would be good…English Muffin, dark meat Chicken…

I just updated the site a decent amount. I added a bunch more foods (let me know if I missed any major foods; im more comfortable with adding a bunch more now that I know how I’m organizing it somewhat), made the meal building algorithm a lot less likely to freeze up (i hope), and now it works in IE 9, but without graphs.

The locking image is a little more obvious now. If you’re picky about what foods you eat each meal, you can kindof finaggle it so that if you start at the top, you can lock foods in place and work your way down through the meals until everything is in the right place. If a food you want isn’t coming up, uncheck the foods you want that are coming up instead and then recheck them after you lock the meal. It’s way less intuitive than I like and kindof a hassle, so I’m going to try and work on letting you drag and drop foods around. I’ll also work in the manual customizing of each meal’s macros. Unfortunately, I have no idea how I’m doing it yet so it’ll probs take a while.

So let me know if you think I should add any good food choices (and any serious errors you find)!

This is a really neat idea, will definitely use when dieting… and I see you have plain yogurt on there but adding plain greek yogurt would also be a nice addition

-also some other good possible additions (random thoughts): coconut oil, almond milk (unsweetened), quinoa, flax seed oil

I made a few small changes to the site and made it a little less buggy.

The main change is that there are now “preset diets.” As you can see, the selection is a little sparse, so if you have any recommendations for ones to add, let me know! If you want to make it super easy for me, tell me what macro proportions to make it and what foods to include.

Brilliantly done. I had a female friend looking for something like this to help her (she is north of 300lbs) and was teary eyed when she saw what she could do with it. It made it very simple for her and because of some issues she has emotionally it is best she does NOT have too many choices. She created a months worth of meals and was very happy with it.

I have shown this to a half a dozen people so far and they all race about it.

Keep up the good work!

Pretty awesome dude, thanks for making this!

Awesome. Definitely sell it as an app.

Everything’s pretty much been said - I’m rubbish with software/tech but if it organised the components into meals that would be sweeeeet. And customisable macronutrient counts (as well as carb timing) would make this perfect.

I have a lot of ideas for you but I won’t post them all here. Shoot me a PM with your email.

I know almost nothing about carb timing! What kind of settings would you want to modify to allow carb timing?

I was thinking of just allowing you to choose between setting the overall macronutrient ratios and opting in to set them individually for each meal. I’m assuming that if you select that option, you’d also want to set a specific amount of calories for each meal, so I would make that an option that goes hand in hand with the custom macros. Otherwise, you’d be stuck with my current scheme of piling on a majority of the carbs in breakfast and the post workout meal.

Really like the ability to select certain foods, great work man,

Made a few small updates the other day. The biggest change is that every time you generate a diet it will give you a permalink to either come back to the diet later or maybe share it with other people for critiquing. The link is really long at the moment, so I might try and integrate a link shortener to return a shortlink instead of what it currently gives you.

Making the customizable macros for each individual meal is next on my list. I’ll let you guys know when it’s up!

You are just plain awesome.

Dude seriously, sell that thing…

this website is awesome, and still only in its infancy, It has GREAT potential, great work man! im adding it as a link on my FB so other people can check it out.

just saw this… Awesome dude!!! Put some serious work into this for a couple weeks and I agree you could sell this thing and make a nice chunk of $$$$!!!

They have already been said I think but, add more food options, as well as some basic supplements. The timing of the carbs for post workout (which could be as easy as allowing the user to rearrange his meals to fit what time of day they work out). Also maybe just make maybe 3 basic settings for click and done selections 1)Gaining Lean Muscle Mass [40%P 20%HF 40%C or so] 2) Loosing fat [60%P 30%HF 10%C] 3)Maintenance [IDK a good breakdown for this maybe 40%P 30HF and 30C]. Also drum up some basic recipes using spices etc. and add in the vegetables into the meal instead of just +lean vegs say 1.5 cups broccoli or w/e it may be.

Make a basic 5-10 recipes per protein source with vegetables. like someone else said make them breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, post workout options. Adding the whole week up with random recipes making it a different meal for different days so your not eating the same thing everyday and generating a grocery list for what you would need for the whole week will also be EXTREMELY POWERFUL.

To add to that maybe a general pricing guideline so people can input their budget to get cheaper sources of proteins or w/e would be killer.

Seriously man, team up with one or two of the guys on here that seriously know their shit and throw them 5-10% of profits and put together a really diverse and user friendly version and this thing could sell like hot cakes buddy.

I wish you the best of luck and am Jealous I did not come up with this idea myself. PM me if you want more advice/clarity.

This is also EXTREMELY marketable, as personally i could think of at least a dozen websites like T-Nation that people would want this. Make it an app for .99 and sell 100k downloads… a seriously nice little bonus, haha.

P.P.S.- Add a pre-generated calorie calculator. I KNOW you have one on there already, but it seems off. It says my fat-loss diet should have 3500 cals/day when my maintenance right now is about 2700/day at 6’2 220 15-18% BF.

So maybe a figure on asking what current levels are. what the goal is. Maybe take maintenance and cut cals by 15-20% slowly week by week. As I said, with some serious time into this you could make a couple dollers off it XD
