Safe is relative, we have somebody die every few years or so. The battles are very stressful and lots of time people don’t get any other sort of exercise other than fighting so you see heart issues, over heating, lots of blunt force trauma of course.
You do see a lot of broken limbs, knee injuries, concussion etc.

Are you SERIOUS???. And I thought heavy lifting was borderline abusive to ones self.

Yeah it can get bad at time. One on one fighting is relatively safeish. Though there are injuries they happen less frenquently than wars where you have hundreds of people basically clubing each other into submission. The armor helps a lot though
Injuries I’ve had over the years:
torn ACL
cracked ribs x4
cracked orbital socket
nose broken x6
half a dozen concussions of various levels
3-4 cuts needing stiches
numerous broken fingers etc…
OMG Joe! I freaking love it!! That looks like so much fun! And I know its not the same, but I always wanted to go to a renaissance fair all decked out a-la Maid Meriam. There’s something very awesome about gnawing on a giant Turkey leg while watching a good joust.

You should totally do it.
I’ve been in a few wench carrying contests.
With luck I’ll post some videos of the fighting when they start popping up on the web.

joe sounds like a crazy weekend.
how do you guys handle a fatality-
do you prop them up in their car and leave,
im kidding but it must kind of kill off the event
Most of the time they are in the ambulance when they go. Our insurance requires we have an ambulance standing by 24/7. Also most of the time most people never know about it because there are 4-6 thousand people there.

this is in addition to the countless bruising…

Gagg! Joe, you really ought to hire a stunt double.
Is that bruise going to keep you from squatting for a bit? Although nowhere near as elaborate as what you do, back in grad school I played full tackle football every weekend with some of the guys from the weightroom. I had to quit after a couple months because it was getting to the point where it took almost a week to recover from all the bruises–just in time to do it again. Really cut into my training time.

Good solid training as usual.
Nah Carl, its not sore really, so I should be golden for squatting by Friday.

Video from the war. Too much spear fencing so its not really an impactful as it might be. Small battle too.
I don’t understand…are you guys actually trying to hurt each other. I imagine that some take it more serious than others. How many real fights break out? Very interesting…I’ve never seen anything like that.
