I Have Nothing to Declare but My Genius

And you are so NOT gangly!

Your dips never cease to amaze me. Shrugs are impressive too! Well done, good sir.

Why shucks ma’am tweren’t nothin…

I have also decided to be more aggressive with my squats. Theres simply no reason why I’m not squatting 315 by now.

Great work, Joe. No comment on “the adjustment”.

Dips, shrugs and CGB look good. And the progress is awesome!
Focus on the squats and I bet you will hit 315# in no time.

Thanks Strick, now if my squats and pulls will catch up.

I wanted to up my deads volume but I was wiped after the heavy singles. Not to happy with missing 375 but I’ll get it soon. The lift seemed to go bad from the start and there was WAY too much low back rounding, probably the most I’ve ever had pulling sumo. Not optimal but I’ll get it fixed.

Joe did you watch the combine and Ingram? Doesnt he just remind you of E Smith?

NFL may not happen but we still have college ball.

Yeah INgram is one of those special players that has all the physical tools and has his head screwed on straight. He’ll produce no matter where he goes.

I saw just enough of the combine to watch the guy do 225# for 49 reps on the bench and the 315# guy run the 40 in 4.9. Toto, we ain’t in Kansas no more.
I’ll refer to you as “Big Dipper” henceforth.

And therein lies the title for your next log. “The Big Dipper.”

I think I’m going to be dropping the dips because I don’t seem to see any carryover to anything else except stronger dips.

I’ve reviewed last nights shitty deadlift and I “think” that I had my foot position badly out of whack. I believe, if its possible, that I had my feet pointed to far out and that pitched me foreward. Still nothing to do but to correct and see.

After looking at, it seems to me that you aren’t getting low enoughon your set up. Drop your hips some more for more leg drive off the floor.

Joe your bench has been going strong, do you think the dips add anything to your bench?

Joe, I thought that was going up.
I see what you mean about the rounded back. Seems to me (and I could be WAY wrong) that having a rounded back would make it harder to push the hips through. That you would have to get the round out before you could properly push the hips through. I bet if you could get the back locked in, that will go with no issue.

As for the dips, maybe you could switch it up with more reps and less weight? Perhaps you’d see some carryover then. For me, I always have to work on endurance as well as strength otherwise my reps never budge.

Or maybe I just have volume on the brain.

Well everything is going up but the dips seem to be outpacing the bench which leads me to believe its the cart before the horse. sort of thing.

No I think you are absolutely right. That whole lift started off feeling not right. Thats the first time I’ve missed a lift that cleared the knees and I really think it was because I as never set right to begin with.

I don’t think I’m ever going to have a really great arch but I’m going to have better than that.

All of this said the switch to Sumo has caused almost all of my low back stiffness to go away.

I also found that heavier dips didn’t do a lot for my bench. It seems a shame to give them up though.

I feel all hollow inside now, like I did when Walter Payton and Michael Jordan retired.

I can’t believe I’ll never see another Joe dip video.

Yeah well don’t feel too bad, I enjoy them, so as much as I should drop them in favor of something more effective I probably won’t.

Walter Payton was the best.

He was my idol. I was never interested in sport at school then american football hit the Uk in the eighties and I saw him and was blown away. Because of him I bought my first set of plastic weights.

I also loved how he was so humble, none of this trash talking shit the NFL seems so full of today, and I loved his work ethic, he was one of the first players to really train all year round.

The miss on 275 was ugly and doomed from set up. Felt really good going into the session and came out not very happy at all. Its done now, time to get ready for squatting tomorrow.

I was originally a Chicago girl, so Walter Payton was well-beloved in our household.

So Joe. Regarding the DL. That’s a weird spot to fail on a sumo pull. Usually it’s off the floor. And it seemed to come off the floor pretty fast and just stall. So I have to cast my vote with Strick and say that the rounded back did not allow hip thrusting and, thus lockout, to occur.

On the advice to start lower . . . good luck on that one. I can’t seem to do it myself, but DL is still my best lift even with a high hip start.
