Your gym might have too many benches and no dead platforms, but three squat racks is almost heaven. I have dead playforms at my 24hr, but I dont use them, I just pull sraight from the floor. the pre-weighted curl bars keep me from doing durls in my squat racks, but the lack of db’s is slightly infuriating. All in all it could be worse. Just keep telling yourself 3 squat racks, short wait.
That gym tour video is much win ![]()
nice benching
the windows in your gym are very drool worthy. There might be a few keys items missing but it still looks like you can get a decent workout done in there.
Mine is the size of a closet compared to yours.
The heavy breathing was a wee bit distracting.
Have a great trip!
bump - safe travels Joe.
Hey, I updated during a road trip.
taps foot…
Back from the great white north, it was kind of cold but Boston was cool and seeing the USS Constitution was outstanding.
Went to the doctor today and had X-rays. She was really helpful, and while waiting for the xray results she is pretty confident that I have a bulging disc and a very small amount of arthritis(WTF?). If it isn’t better in a few weeks I’ll have the option of taking meds, going for the old nerve block, or altering my lifting accordingly.
So on the one hand, it’s probably not that bad, but it still could be annoying.
Lifting later today.
I have arthritis in my lower back. Have been told to stop lifting last year. My discs are rubbing against each other. But to be honest, I feel very little back pain ever. I refuse to give up until I know Im ready. I’m not suggesting you do as I, but listen to your body.
I try and remember to do this everytime I am in the gym, however ego does win out some days
.
Good luck with your back. Mine used to be very tweaky, but I have not had any problems with it in almost a year, until a few days ago. Now it hurts, but hopefully will be better in a few days. I hate that there is such a fine line between making your back stronger and severe injury and pain.
Joe, I’m glad you had fun in the cold north!
If you haven’t already read them, these articles on bulging disks/back stuff seem really good:
Good luck with your back Joe. I’m intrested in how you work through the back issues.

I know exactly what you mean. I’m a firm believer that strong back muscles make a healthier back.

The Lobster roll at Kingfish was quite tasty.
Thanks for those I’m going to print them out and read them throughly.

I have pretty much figured out a mildly interesting set up that is very low back friendly but thats not really what I want to do. I want to get back to DLing and then compete but we 'll see if that happens. The doc was really good about wanting me to be able to deadlift though.
Add that I left my gym clothes at home so I’m going to have to lift four days in a row this week it looks like. I’ll be glad to get settled back into a routine.
This was probably covered before, but why not sumo DL? Easier on the low back, good for shorter arms.

For some reason everytime I try to pull Sumo I end up looking like Jim Carey on meth.

Quoted, both, for redundancy.
I’m glad I asked.
There is a significant shift in emphasis from the low back to the legs. It could be what the doctor ordered in order to keep you DLing and competing.
Oh, and a vid please.
