I Have Nothing to Declare but My Genius

hey joe, watched your vid and read everyone’s comments. i’ll give you my 2 cents.

first, my advice about sumo isn’t going to work for you.

your issue is that you aren’t affectively using the lower body to start the lift. your hips are flying up and then you are stifflegging it up…of course your back is going to round when you do that.

so… what do you need to do to fix it??

first, you need to learn to be faster off the floor. start doing some speed work with really light weight. somewhere on the southern end of 50%. you really need to learn to get the hips through A LOT faster. i mean explosive. i’m going to post a vid below this of my speed work. this is how fast i want it to be. see how my hips come to the bar right away, forcefully.

also, when you setup, experiment with your distance away from the bar. your shins shouldn’t touch the bar until you actually get into the down position. once you find that position, i want you to get all your weight back on your heels and actually lift your toes up and keep them up until the bar passes your knees. you will probably fall backwards ( a lot) at first but this will teach you to not immidiately let the weight shift forward. when the weight shifts forward, your ass flys up and you go into that stiff-legged position. if you are pulling with your toes up and your bodyweight all the way back on your heels you will naturally begin in a good position. don’t worry about squatting down, you will already be there if your shins are just touching the bar, toes up and weigt on heels. from there just think about getting the hips to the bar as fast as you can.

hope this helps.

Thanks MM I’m going to really hit that hard and try and get my shit squared away.

After being frustrated with my pulling. I went to the gym on my day off and thought I’d get a little cardio in.

1 mile: 7 minutes 13 seconds *too slow

Didn’t time the rest of the 5k but it was markedly slower.

Just catching up. Your training seems to be going great. See you’re still happy about your deads (wry grin using symbols on the keyboard).

Joe, you totally SMOKE me on the running times. Sadly, we couldn’t run together at this time. :frowning: But I’m working on it!

Meat is the man. Looking forward to seeing you execute the plan.

7 minute mile isnt slow joe- its pretty good

Meats advice is really really good- he has a knack for breaking things down

I learned the o-lifts first ( and sucked at them) but doing plenty of RDL
has helped me try to keep the arch…

Nah we could, you’d just be spared my heavy breathing.

Hell ya 7 min. mile is a good time. if I’m allowed to extrapolate my 40 yard time, I am probably right at a 7 min. mile.

It looks like Meat laid out a pretty good plan for the DL. I bet you see some good results soon.

Yep, I’m going to be studying MM’s suggestions like its the key to happiness.

Untrustworthy spotters.

I should also note, in the interest of full disclosure, that the resolutionists are out in full force and that apparently I am a dirty old man.

This implies that you have something interesting at which to look. Unlike me, awash in resolutionists and nothing to see there…

Nice benching.

Resolutionist complained to the staff that I was making too much noise “dropping” my deads today. As I have paid their salaries for the last 5 years the simply told her they “would look into it”.

If you truly are a dirty old man then I am Dolly Parton. I’ve seen way worse. You sir are a connoisseur of fine ass.

Well yes that true, but when a 20 year old, who apparently does not quite get gym appropriate attire and who also seems to have misplaced her bra in the “cold” gym, is standing in front of you asking questions while literally bouncing up and down it stops being interesting.

All I could think was “I might be old enough to be your dad but I’m NOT your dad,”.

Then I felt kind of creepy.

My gym SUCKS compared to yours.

You are over-thinking it. Don’t feel creepy. Revel in your ability to attract that which you can not have.

Maybe, but you have to remember its University gym so there is a very HIGH level of brotard going on as well.

Like burpees in the squat rack.
