Joe: You are a brave man. And I really admire that.
Sounds like life is pretty damn good for you. Can’t ask for much more.
Ahh, Jumpin’ Jack. Good commentary. Is that what trainers are usually thinking?

Impressive dipping Joe as always,
I’d have predicted you were good for 30+ bw dips (fresh) based on your reps with 135lbs, but I think alot of it is down to pacing.
I dont know if it’s best to do as many as possible as quickly as possible and then grind out singles? or do them in blocks of ten with pauses inbetween?
And that was a deload day aswell, WOW.

That’s a great looking hat. I may try that too. Maybe I’ll try reindeer antlers instead.
Going back a few pages I was trying to catch up on things. I agree with Snapper on the cheating on depth when the weight gets heavier. I do the same thing. It can be a tough one to battle. It’s not as bad if you have spotters though.[/quote]
I’m just going to have to keep an eye on it. I don’t mind if I chop a lift an inch high on one of my 5/3/1 money sets but I need to know I’m doing it and be able to not do it when it counts.

I’m not sure if its courage or dumbass but rarely am I unwilling to do something out of embarassment.

I went back to see for myself, and I thought they were both close at your heaviest attempt, so close in fact that I would have probably called them both high in fast motion, but in stop motion when I stopped them at the bottom, I think you broke parallel on both and I would have given you a white on both, and camera angle may also play a part on how deep they look on film. My point being, I agree with you 100%, its not like you missed by 6 inches–if you missed high at all. I would just try and take your openers a little deeper to make sure you get a good lift in and just see what happens at your heaviest weight. You only need two whites for a good lift, and if you miss a little high on your heaviest attempt, so be it, live and learn. You don’t get bonus points for going extra deep and the deeper you go (for most people) the less you can lift. Part of the sport is finding out how close you can cut it and still get two whites on your heaviest attempt.
hey, Joe, been in absentia for awhile, your lifting is looking great. any fun plans for the upcoming pagan baccalarian festival?

We always have all of our friends who don’t have family over and I cook a really big ass turkey and laugh about how fucked up our families are.
How are things going your way?

I tired really hard to keep an arch in my back on the deads and I ended up rounding my back more than ever. Its really, really very frustrating because it doesn’t feel round but when i watch the viedo I’m thinking “Holy crap”. I guess theres nothing to do but keep trying to fix it.
proof of suckitude.
Now now, Joe. Let’s not get self-deprecating on your DLs.

Jumpin’ Jack speaks the truth.
But there’s no reviewing the vid at the meet. The judges have a split second to assess depth and make their calls.
You’ve got so much going on in here don’t know where to start. Your liftings looking great. Keep it up.
no tree? ![]()
Joe lots of good things in here…
squats looked good maybe its just needed more volume of triples or doubles before it gets heavy
to be warm
nice work.

Trainer: Ok, now, grab these dumbbells and bend over.
Trainee: So, what’s the purpose of this exercise?
Trainer: Mmm, well, it works your core and burns fat.
Trainee: Ok, so, what is the purpose of the dumbbells?
Trainer: Well, when I touch your ass like this it makes it much harder for you to slap me when you have two dumbbells in your hands, see?

Okay guys tell me if the pause was long enough for meet training. I know I need to get in the habit of holding the bar up before I rack it.
1x185
1x205

DB bench
The pause looked fine to me. The pause only has to be long enough for the bar to come to a rest and be stable. A judge may hold you if the bar is wobbling, but those looked great.

Thanks, right now I’m thinking I’ll go 205, 225, 245 but I don’t have to decide quite yet.

I agree with Jack - the cadence for the entire lift looked great and the lift was easy enough to be a first attempt.
