I Have Nothing to Declare but My Genius

Thanks George, I’m going to start doing that and see how it feels.

5x135

RDL form check, these feel off.

Well that shows your squat depth issues are not flexibility related then.

you nailed all the lower weights

The first rep at 260 probably would have been called high in the USAPL, the second rep would have definently be called high. work up from 185 feeling that depth

What I’m thinking is that my squats should be something like this 205, 225, 245 meet wise. I’m going to keep on this 5/3/1 cycle and try and push all of my squats lower and do singles at 205 after the working sets to try and really push deep.

The reputation I have. Funny.

Yep. Definitely not a flexibility issue. You just tend to cheat depth as the weight gets heavy. Pretty common, really! I think that’s way better news than having a flexibility issue. Video yourself as you add weight to keep yourself honest.

Good work in here, Joe, just catching up, nice PRs. It looks like your back is doing better, I hope it feels better as well. How long before meet time?

Thanks! I won’t be doing the pulls on Sat. very often but I had a enormous breakfast and felt like lifting something heavy.

The back is much better, not quite 100% but I’m taking less anti-inflammatories and the stiffness is almost all gone. I’m still going to have to keep an eye on it for a while but hopefully the worse is over.

The meet is mid-Feburary so I need to be getting my openers squared away.

You made me go look, didn’t you? HA!

Nice training Joe!

90s on the DB Press is big! I’m trying to DB press my weight so i’m studying your form - I see you tuck your elbows in. Interesting.

Your RDLs looked good. I do mine with a bit less knee bend than you do, and really try to push my ass out like I’m trying to get it to touch the wall behind me. But you use considerable more weight than i do, so maybe you need to bend a little more?

Awesome rack pulls! What was this breakfast of champions?

Probably pancakes…

Well since next week will include the golas for the New Years post I thought I’d do a 2010 recap post.

On the upside I hit all my lifting goals by July and had to adjust them upward. On the downside I didn’t hit any of the adjusted ones and even had to back track a little due to back issues.

Current PR’s:

Dead: 425
Bench: 275 (I think)
Squat: 275 (legal depth) I’ve chopped 290.

Weight: 191

I’ve let the cardio slip but that probably helped me get the back issues right faster so I can live with it. I

My father-in-law passed away this year and that was not so great, more for my wife than my self but its horrible seeing anyone wasting away from cancer.

Other than that, things have gone very well for me this year and I have been fortunate both personally and professionally.

On the whole I have been very lucky and hopefully I haven’t taken it for granted.

So I look terrible in this video but what the hell. Frenchie as been so great about the santa pics.

I’ll do this quick because I’m on my lunch break and I tend to waste too much time on T-Nation but that heavy deads in a santa hat made my day  You rock the hat and the charm. I love that your game to play. Don’t change that and keep lifting.

Hope 2011 brings you an many good reasons to keep smiling and goofing and lifting.
cheers

It sounds like 2010 was a good year for you, and it seems clear to me that you haven’t taken your good fortune for granted.

Rack pulls in a Santa hat: I am charmed.

Look for the kimba Santa hat picture tomorrow. I promise that its a good one.

Trainer: Ok, now, grab these dumbbells and bend over.

Trainee: So, what’s the purpose of this exercise?

Trainer: Mmm, well, it works your core and burns fat.

Trainee: Ok, so, what is the purpose of the dumbbells?

Trainer: Well, when I touch your ass like this it makes it much harder for you to slap me when you have two dumbbells in your hands, see?

22 dips after weighted dips is awesome, nice work.

That’s a great looking hat. I may try that too. Maybe I’ll try reindeer antlers instead.

Going back a few pages I was trying to catch up on things. I agree with Snapper on the cheating on depth when the weight gets heavier. I do the same thing. It can be a tough one to battle. It’s not as bad if you have spotters though.
