I think the blandness of U2 is only just overshadowed by the annoying smug-gittery of Bonio.
If I want lectures on the hardship of life and the need to “share the wealth”, I don’t need to listen to some obnoxious condescending millionaire who hasn’t worked a day in his life.
If he feels so bad about world poverty and social injustice, perhaps he should sell his collection of sunglasses and Grecian 2000 hair products, and send the money to the poor?
Fucking word to that! Bono (and indeed every other fucktard ‘entertainer’ like Sting and Michael Jackson who wants to save the planet) should take enough of his cash to live comfortably, and give ALL of the rest to charity if theyre that concerned about it. U2 are no longer relevant, and are probably mighty pissed about that fact.
Bono is a publicity whore who uses charity to get his stupid sunglasses wearing (even at night) face on our screens, which totally boils my piss. A great way to raise cash for charity would be a pay per view, live televised, ‘Bono Death’. Id like to see him put into a coffin filled with broken glass and dog shit and kicked off a mountain. The rating would be crazy, and think of the poor kids that would be helped by the proceeds raised from watching the cock sucker tumbling to a satisfying end.[/quote]
You have quite the way with words, Bulla… I’ve been laughing non-stop for the last five minutes reading this last paragraph.
I think that we need to set aside our differences concerning Bono/U2 and concentrate on destroying a common enemy: Scott Stapp
“Bad” is probably the band’s best, in my opinion, unfortunately, I don’t think too many folks who are not at least somewhat familiar with the band’s catalog is going to know it.
We shouldn’t talk too bad about Bono, after all, I believe, he is a regular poster here, and at this moment is working dillengently with Biotest on a new supplement which will be called either “Elevation” or “Miracle Drug”. What the hell do you think the term Biotest edge refers too anyway?
I dont own any U2 albums nor have I ever been inclined to go out and buy their stuff, which is partly due to the fact that I think bono is a tool.
But I think they are a fantastic band and the fact that they are still around filling stadiums to old and new fans alike is a testament to their music prowess. I went to see the chillis peppers a few years ago (they were supporting U2 at slaine castle) and U2 live blew me away, fucking amazing live, unbelievable in fact!
Whether you love or hate them you cannot dispute the fact that they have written some beautiful and energetic pop songs that have more depth and clout than 90% of the sandwich filler shite we hear on the radio at the moment.
Deciding if a band is good or not based solely on individual taste is wrong because we all have our personal preferences but U2 are good, there is no doubting that fact. Like the Stones, Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Metallica, The Eagles, Radiohead, Iron Maiden, Motorhead or whatever they all have their haters but that dont make them bad!
Bono is still s tool though LOL!
i would love to take every par of glasses he owns and introduce them to my foot

If you can’t count to 4 in a language, then STFU and stop recording.

That bugs me too.

Id like to take just one pair and nail them to his face, so the prick cant ever take them off. And just before I hammered the last nail in, id ask everyone who hates U2 to shout ‘Uno, dos, tres, quatorze!’ then smack it as hard as I fucking can. How does that ‘feeeeeeeeel’ eh, Bono?
Yeah, yeah, yeah , yeah, yeah , yeah, yeah, yeeeeaaaaahhhhh!

AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Wait…wait…
AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I didn’t think anyone could hate that fucker more than me.
Remember his Time magazine cover, “Can Bono Save The World” ?
Fucking cock-smoker.
I hate them too. Maddox tore apart “How to dismantle”.
Just getting a heads up but, how does the T-Nation community feel about the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Hey guys, I’ve been a lurker for a couple of months now, but when I saw this thread, I just knew this had to be my first post. Put simply, U2 is fucking bullshit. Artistically speaking, their work has absolutely no inherent musical value. It’s boring, repetitive, and uninspired.
Speaking as a guitarist, "The Edge" has to be my most hated guitarist of all time - a monkey with a one string banjo could imrovise something more interesting than him. And with regards to their live performances/image, they have no stage presence whatsoever. Bono moves like a retarded leprachaun on stage, accompanied by the rest of the suspiciously gay looking members.
While this may all seem harsh, its absolutely true. Its garbage like this that gets past off as music these days that has led to the decline of musical creativity, and the continued corporatization of the industry. To sum it up, these guys are total fakes, from their music, to their bullshit "do gooder" fake-ass persona. Man I hate U2.

Nothing wrong with RHCP, at all.

The chilli peppers are great imo, but Anthony Kiedis the Iggy Pop / Mick Jagger wannabe needs a good root in the nuts, fuck he is one pain in the arse. He spouts alot of nonsensical moonbeam bullshit (not near in the copious amounts or in the same vein as our dear friend bono) but oh so very painful all the same.
We shall give him a right seat at the side of Bono for second most annoying lead singer but i am sure someone else will do one better : )
p.s. this is by no means an attempt at taking the spot light off my fellow compatriot Boner

Uh-huh. Most hated guitarist of all time? No stage presence? No musical value?
That’s a whole lotta hyperbole.
The Edge is at least a decent guitarist… The most hated guitarist would probably be someone who couldn’t play at all.
US sells-out all of their shows and they’re considered to be pretty good live (or so I’m told… I’ve never been to one of their concerts and I likely never will).
U2 is rather popular and is widely considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. Granted popularity doesn’t equate to quality… however, when you’re liked be so many people, there might be something to ya (because there are stronger corelations with unpopularity and a lack of quality).

totally agree with the above statement. i think alexsandar has taken his hatred of u2 a bit too far! jezuz man, they are not that bad for gods sake. i wasnt a fan but when i saw them live they were bloody amazing. the fact that he moves around, in your opinion, like a retarded leprechaun doesnt reflect on the live performance of their music.
which brings me to my next point, how should a front man of a rock/pop band move or present himself onstage? as far as i can see all front men try their best to outdo each other and as a result they are all a bit out there, the more so the better in fact
personal favourites; Freddy Mercury, early Mick Jagger

Alright, I can see why you’d say that. But I personally think that as actual bands, RHCP musically suprasses U2.
And Anthony Kiedis doesn’t think he’s god either.
[Note: I am not a U2 fan - although I enjoy their earlier music and some of their later singles]
Of a certainty, U2 has suffered from being overhyped, that being said, much of their music is relevant and fresh, even today - although not as consistent, in terms of quality, as some of their earlier efforts.
The thing with U2, is that they have constantly experimented with their sound - in much the same way Madonna has - and while most people mention the Joshua Tree as the pinnacle of their achievement even that recording was a marked variation from works such as Boy and War. Sometimes the experiments worked, sometimes not so much: but then Metallica’s St Anger is a P.O.S. in comparison to their earlier works…isn’t it?
What I am hearing in this thread is a lot of bandwagoning b/s and a lot of ad hom tripe directed at Bono. You don’t like Bono, hooray - but at least have a reason a little more substantial than…“he’s a smug pole-smoker who needs to have his ficking sunglasses crushed in a car compacter, preferably while still attached to his head”.
Sad.
Sure, musically, they might not be revolutionary: Larry Mullin Jnr and Adam Clayton are not adn never will be the world’s best rhythm section, but they are good enough to supoprt the type of music the band plays. The Edge’s sound was unique and different in the 80’s but things progress and move on: there is, however, no crime in sticking with a sound that is your signature (or would someone prefer it if Led Zepplin had become a skiffle band).
Part of U2’s problem in the 90’s was that in trying to reinvent themselves adn move forward they sacrified their signature sound; hardly surprising given that it is one of the hardest things in the world for a band to retain their sound and yet remain fresh. Look at someone like the Rolling Stones - haven’t really even attempted to change their sound in 40 years+: people like formula, they feel safe with it (and they’re still crap and overrated…heh!!! My bias is showing). U2’s last 2 albums, neither of which I own, nor have listened to in their entirety, area return to a more traditional, rock/pop based sound…their roots, if you will, although, to be fair, U2 started out in the great post-punk movement that gave us bands like Joy Division and The Clash.
[For the record: Some of the most important, vibrant pop music from the early 80’s was made by U2. They produced one of the most underrated albums of the last 25 years with The Unforgettable Fire and Beautiful Day and Mysterious Ways are two of the better singles of the 90’s but, like every other band they are not perfect -and I can’t listen to Zooropa either.]
About 10 years ago, I won tickets on the radio to the U2 tour that featured Rage Against the Machine as the supporting act. Can’t remember what album U2 was touring on at the time. A friend and I went, watched Rage Against the Machine, and left as soon as they were done. True story.
Hate if you will. But I just never got into U2.
Fuck all ya’all.
I LOVE U2!!!
Support to the end.
Bono is amazing
After spraying it with windex and wiping with an old shirt, I managed to get my Black Sabbath cd to burn to my computer. Someday’s, I just have a streak of luck.
