I Hate U2, Mostly Bono

Easy on that Kool-Aid, man! I like a couple of their songs, but I’m by no means a fan. I do get a little tired of all these celebrities pushing their political agendas on everyone dumb enough to listen. Just 'cause you’re famous, doesn’t mean you’re smart and we should care what you say. Besides, most entertainers are fake as Hell, anyway. I don’t know enough to say whether he’s full of shit or not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was.

RE: the “uno, dos, tres, quatorces!” bit…

I believe that means “one, two, three, fourteen!” (I don’t speak Spanish), and I also believe that there is a story behind that. It’s not that he can’t speak Spanish, it’s that there’s a meaning behind ‘1, 2, 3, 14!’.

However, I can’t remember what the story was, nor where I read it. I also don’t feel like hunting it down.

But if anyone else interested enough, by all means hunt away.

I’m gonna give you to the count of ten, before I pump your guys full of lead! One… Two… TEN!

Good to see fellow U2 haters out there. I say we nominate Henry Rollins as the patron of our club. He ripped into them back in 92 when everyone still thought they were good.
Does that mean Rollins liked them pre-1992?

No problem.

From wikipedia:
At the beginning of the song, U2 lead singer Bono counts off in Spanish unos, dos, tres, catorce!. In the version on the live album U2.Communication, Bono falsely announces the language as Gaelic. In English, this translates to “one, two, three, fourteen!” (Proper translation of “one, two, three, four” would be “uno, dos, tres, cuatro.”) When asked about this oddity in an interview for Rolling Stone, Bono replied “there may have been alcohol involved.”

Just one more reason he’s a fuckup. Confuses spanish with another language. Can’t count properly to four.

Just getting a heads up but, how does the T-Nation community feel about the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
I can understand peoples feelings towards Bono’s ultra-serious attitude at times but I’ve liked the band since their first recordings. They played their own brand of rock music through the 80’s, in the face of all that sythn pop and hair-metal garbage.

They ran neck -n- neck with the overwhelming grunge movement and released - I beleive - their finest album Achtung Baby. Yes they are grandiose sometimes and over step good boundries but who doesn’t?

I’ve always thought their stuff with Eno and Lanois was fantastic in it’s atmosphere and passion. As far as his political activism…what…the hell. Why not use your status to give voice to those who are drowned by the din of corporate media? If he said nothing and did nothing he’d be guilty of wasteing his celebrity.

As far as the peppers go…they certainly can play well but I never really cared for their music all that much. I mean there are some songs here and there but… I do think their later work is far better than the first few releases. I suppose that Anthony Kiedes and Flea annoy me to a degree that Bono annoys others on here. I can more easily forgive Bono’s righteous bravado than the immature, slightly retarted actions of Anthony and Flea. Everyone has their moments but they make it difficult to watch for more than 30 seconds.

The whole funk-punk face making and fleas siezure episodes are too much for me to bare. I can look past that stuff if they were still in their twenties(maybe) but 40’s?

“YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH”

-Bono

That is not, and never will be, any form of music worth more than a squirt of piss.

being langers and attempting to count in spanish, bono would easily get confused considering counting in irish, 2 and 3 sounds similar to the spanish pronunciation of the same numbers with 4 being an obvious slip of the tounge. it looks like this, a ceathair, and sounds like this, caher.

i know who cares, so sorry lads, i thought i needed to add this little bit of info : )

Sabrina, your still my fantasy girl.

I think I was 14 or 15 when U2 came out. First album was rough but good and the second was worth while. Did anybody see that rediculous concert movie (red sky?)where that piece of shit Bono tore into our country while playing on our soil? I when home and threw my U2 casettes away. Bono hasn’t been able to sing for years, probably because he doesn’t practice and “Edge” is a pathetic musician. It is offensive that they can get away with passing their shit off as music long after giving up as musicians.

While I was sitting in the office at work with a fellow T-Nation member a U2 song suddenly came on the radio. A very colorful conversation ensued about how much my co-worker enjoys U2. I began my rant of how much I respect the fact that U2 has been around for so long, and has some how managed to put out record breaking albums year after year. But when it comes down to it I just plain don’t like their music, and mainly…I hate Bono. His charity and world donations are great and all but I feel that he is a smug, self righteous dick head. I also mentioned that when he’s not in the spot light he goes home and eats babies…probably while kicking a puppy. After all this my friend asked me to post this on T-Nation to gather more opinions on the issue. Please let me know what you think.
Concur. I thought I was the only one. Can’t stand those guys. Hate their music. Hate their politics.

I dig his '80’s mullet.

My favorite Bono moment is an interview from Maxim UK in 02’ where Bono thinks that all 3rd would debt should be forgiven.

It’s easy when it’s not your money you twit!!

They aren’t criticizing Americans per-se but it’s policies of the government(mostly international).

Is it any wonder how the corporate elite and corrupt politicans can get away with what they do when you read replys such as this one?

No he’s hated them since the beginning I think (maybe in a book). I’m just referencing Big Ugly Mouth which came out in 92 (I believe).

Responding to a simple analysis with another simple analysis hardly furthers the debate…or are you a member of some marxist uni group and thats as far as you go?
