While I was sitting in the office at work with a fellow T-Nation member a U2 song suddenly came on the radio. A very colorful conversation ensued about how much my co-worker enjoys U2. I began my rant of how much I respect the fact that U2 has been around for so long, and has some how managed to put out record breaking albums year after year. But when it comes down to it I just plain don’t like their music, and mainly…I hate Bono. His charity and world donations are great and all but I feel that he is a smug, self righteous dick head. I also mentioned that when he’s not in the spot light he goes home and eats babies…probably while kicking a puppy. After all this my friend asked me to post this on T-Nation to gather more opinions on the issue. Please let me know what you think.

I am that co-worker and think that is total bullshit and blasphemy .
Great first post.
Anyway, I hate U2 - not specific band members, just the band.
U2 was a great band in the 80’s.
Joshua Tree is one of the top albums of alltime.
I think their work in the 90’s and beyond has ranged from mediocre to horrible.
Bono seems like a massive asshole on a personal level but I admire his commitment to his causes and think the causes are generally good.
U2 is one of those bands in which I absolutely love some of the stuff, and just do not get some of their other material. Bono can be out there at times, no question. The first thing that comes to mind is the band being in drag for the original “One” video. As far as I’m concerned, that is one of the better songs of our time, but why the band was dressed this way, I have no idea.
As a personal note, I greatly enjoyed “The Joshua Tree”, “Rattle and Hum”, "All that You Can’t Leave Behind. “Acthung Baby” took a while to grow on me, but I have to say I would put it up there on my list as favorites. “Pop” and “Zooropa” are different stories, I am not too fond of those albums. Their latest is alright, but I wouldn’t put it up their with my favorites.
I absolutely LOVE u2 there music is a huge inspiration to me.
I didnt even get into there music until 2000, when All That You Can’t Leave Behind came out.
For those of you who don’t like them, to each there own. But I urge all of you who are interested to go out and pick up a book called “Killing Bono”, about a guy named Neil Mccormick (sp?) who grew up with Bono and was into the music industry himself. He was basically a cooler and more talented version of Bono back when they were teenagers, but obviously never struck it big, and had to live in the shadow of his old friend from the neighborhood.
I don’t like their music much, besides a couple songs, but I admire Bono’s work.
He didn’t have to do all the charity that he did, and EVERYONE who gives to ANY charity does it for some kind of selfish reason, even if it’s the fact that making others feel better makes you feel better.
If the person giving isn’t getting anything out of it, they won’t give.
From what I’ve seen of him, he’s done more good than bad, but I don’t know him on a personal level.
Bono wears sunglasses everywhere he goes, looking like a complete tool, and their guitarist coined himself “The Edge.”
U2 sucks, end of story.

Well said. U2 sucks and Bono is a fucking douchebag.
I think I would be more impressed if they put down their guitars and picked up truncheons and helped to liberate ireland.
Pre-90’2 U2 = Great
90’s U2 = Mediocre
Post-90’s U2 = Awful
I LIKE TO CALL BONO BONNER THEY SUCK

Thank you for your support fellow U2 haters. I personally would like to start the “Bono Is A Tool” fan club, and lead the revolution towards banning U2 from the world, isolating them to Ireland. The picture is of my girlfriend in Las Vegas supporting the cause.
I think that Bono is quite annoying and U2’s musuc has never really made my head spin. However, I think that he truly believes in his causes and works hard at them.
As someone has already stated, he didn’t have to do any of this work, but did anyway. He does however, put too much faith in the UN and liberalism in general. But that’s a whole other thread :}

I think you meant to say “Boner”. Anyway, I don’t have a problem with U2. I neither love nor hate them. Some of thier stuff is ok, but songs like “Elevation” make me want to puke. I think his charity work is a good thing and from what I know he is a good guy.
On the other hand, Lance Armstrong gives me a wierd feeling. I admire his cancer research push, but I think he is a little too self righteous and cocky. Also, I don’t know if this is true, but I heard he cheated on his wife, and that shit doesn’t fly. Not one bit.
Anyway, good luck to both of 'em.
Yeah I agree… U2 can suck my balls. Their music is homo as hell.
One of the greatest, deepest bands of all time.
I like most of their songs, but there are a couple that are just insanely beautiful pieces of art, namely, “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “One”, and “Beautiful Day”.
One of my favorites. Not too mention Bono, who is far more respected than the rest of the idiot celebrities that dabble in politics. Let him wear fucking sunglasses- that guy does more in a day for the poor and beaten masses than most do in a lifetime.
My hat’s off to all of them.

Hahaha.
We can fix the world Flamer ![]()
He is one of the best examples of everything a liberal should be.
U2 started out sucky.
They sucked up until now.
And they still suck.
They have got to be one of the worst bands that has ever existed. I’ve always been baffled how anybody could be entertained by any of their crap. Even if they didn’t suck as bad as they do, after seeing Boney on TV running his mouth a few times I wouldn’t be able to listen to their crap without feeling sick to my stomach.
I would honestly rather spend 45 minutes jabbing an ice pick under my fingernail than listening to any U2 CD.
In summary, I really don’t care for them all that much.
I am in for the U2-SUCK club. and yes, bono does seem like a self-righteous prick
