After a weekend eaten up by a soccer tournament (daughter’s not mine) and a looooong Monday at work, I was staring at the 3rd week of a Wendler progression, deadlift day. I laid in the bed with a million excuses to pass, and then in my mind I saw thousands of T-Nationites looking @ me with disgust and disdain, trying to get my account banned from the site.
So, with that image in mind, I had the best deadlift day I’ve ever had. Hit every lift hard, and got an extra rep on the last set. Thanks guys, couldn’t have done it without you.
Congrats! I love when you expect nothing and have a great workout.
On the flip side, there are some days when it just ain’t happening.
I went to the gym last night with the intention of doing the leg workout of my life because I have to take today off. I got there, started warming up and just couldn’t summons the energy or concentration. Did some squats to get pumping… nothing. Loaded some plates on the leg press… Nothing. A couple sets of light calf raises… nothing.
Forced myself to do a Tabata session of db front squats. That put me on my ass, then I left.
All of about 25 minutes. I managed to work up a sweat, but wouldn’t call it a workout. Went through the motions is about all.
I’ve found that there are some times when all feels wrong and you just shouldn’t lift.
Then there are times where you may feel like not going in, but you know you’ve slept, eaten and hydrated enough…so you go in and it’s usually a great time in the gym.
