I disagree. But its a personal opinion if you tend to fall forward on your squat, olympic shoes are not for you. I love my chucks I want silver leather ones from santa to squat in

A heel is required for Olympic weightlifting, unless a person lifts split style which is very rare.

He said nothing about Oly lifting just weight lifting and many people seam to think that Oly lifting shoes are the best for squating for powerlifting and I was just pointing out that its a personal opinion for each and every lifter what they like and that I personally dont like em.

Cheeta, what you’re saying is correct, but many people refer to oly lifting and weightlifting.

They’re good for moderate-to-narrow squatters. Garbage for wide stance.
weightlifting is olympic weightlifting. Weightlifting is not powerlifting. Weightlifting is not weight training.

Garbage?

I squat with a moderate-wide (wider than shoulder width) stance as is described in Starting Strength. I hope these shoes will not cause problems for this stance. Anyways, I want them for my power cleans. Chucks just don’t cut it.

However I am most excited about using them for squats since I squat every session (back or front).

Also, how do you guys feel these shoes perform for deadlifts? Decent hopefully.

For DL I would suggest sock feet or something with very little sole to it like Chucks. I use dance slippers.

Less than ideal. The heel is going to raise you off the floor, creating a longer pull. It’s also going to push your knees forward so you may have to manuever around them. I’d use the Oly shoes for your Squat variations, and use something like a Chuck or a DL slipper for Deads.

Thanks ouroboro_s and Modi for the advice. So I should just bring a pair of chucks to the gym and swap out shoes for deads? I think I can make that happen

Some PLers even use a shoe with raised toes for DLing.

Yes just switch depending on the lift you’re doing. I’m sure no one will stare…much.

ouroboro, i was gonna get those shoes from winnipeg!
but I didn’t trust them haha.
I found another pair of oly shoes. 85 dollars, and located in Toronto…and I live close to there so it’s perfecttt in case they suckass.

I was okay with it because everyone at our club has them. In fact, at our last meet, I looked down and everyone in the room was wearing identical shoes from the same guy. I suppose it’s different if you don’t know anyone with experience with the company. The guy actually sent two pairs so I could try both and keep the best ones.

Yeah man. The main purpose of the wedge is so you can sit back while squatting narrow/moderate. When squatting wide, that wedge isn’t needed to sit back.

Also, the angle the wedge makes it harder to hit depth as it causes your knees to be slightly lower in relation to the hip joint than with a flat-soled shoe. You should be fine with your stance, though.

He did the same for me. These shoes are badass.

That’s what I’d do, if I ever did squats and deads on the same day ( - :
I got my Ironworks from an E-Bay store, 100$ tax and shipping in. If you try a pair of Stan Smiths at a local athletic store, you’ll find they fit exactly the same as the Ironworks.

I’d like to know where to find a pair. One of the girls I lift with had a pair custom made for her. I’ve been told that because of an oly lifting background, I get too far over the bar and use my quads too much with conventional DL. Maybe raised toes would help.

I asked Santa for better bench technique and less forward lean on my sqaut…we’ll see what happens.

Ironworks are fine as long as you have a normal to narrow foot. I’ve heard that they aren’t so great for those with wider feet.

Good point. Adidas’ weightlifting shoes do tend to run narrow compared to other brands. I have ‘normal’ width feet and my AdiStars are snug.

OP, also make sure you ask for a half size smaller than your normal running/training shoe as they tend to run large.

If you have a wider foot, go with the Do-Wins. I have no problems in mine, but the adistars were just too narrow.

Man, if that works send him my way too, I’ll have milk and cookies ready. I’ve already promised my first child for a bench PR, no way I’m giving up my dog.

I’m not a Oly/Power lifter, but I use Vibram Five Fingers when I work out. They work really good for me.

I like my blue suede Do-wins but the heel is higher than most other Oly shoes.
The newer ones don’t have as high of a heel. I got some a month ago and really like them. I compete in the USAPL and from squatting deep I used to have some pain in my hips periodically, and now I don’t. They also makes it a little easier to squat deep.
