Yup you are… it seems that the effective result of downregulating myostatin is hyperplasia. Some of the additional effects are hypertrophy, and decreased ppar gamma.
This is why I reason that the type of training and dieting(cutting or bulking) you do isn’t very important, as long as you do something.
The training and dieting will assist in the hypertrophic aspect of muscle growth.
Michael Gundill wrote an article in Ironman’s Bodybuilding Supplement Review entitled “How to Destroy Fat Cells.” It has some interesting points and references if you can find a copy.
Anybody happen to remember that article series in Muscle Media written by that Swedish guy with the unpronouncable name? He supposedly came up with the ABCDE diet and exercise plan, however in the bulking phase (lasting 2-weeks) he suggested doing S.P.I.D.E.R. streatching. Sorry I can’t remember too much of the details, but basically you pumped a muscle and then streatched the hell out of it, causing lots of muscular damage and realinement of something ?? in the muscle tissue. Which more or less is what Cy said, but there were some specific routines that worked quite well for me (well, they hurt like hell at least). Sorry I don’t remember the specifics, but I’ll dig it out if some of you are interested.
I’m not sure why my previous post didn’t make it… But you’re right. Hyperplasia was induced as well as hypertrophy. It seems that it is a nice additional effect of myostatin repression.
I think the Swedish guy you are talking about is Torbjorn Akerfeldt. What you said sounded like something I read in the Sports Supplement Review 3rd Issue. It was two weeks of dieting, followed by two weeks of “overfeeding” with intense training and stretching. Was that the one?
Yeah, it was Torbjorn Akerfeldt and the series of articles started in the Sports Supp Review #3. I have also heard Pavel Tsatsouline recommend loaded stretching to help with hypertrophy. Maybe it is just guys with unpronoucable names that recommend this kind of loaded intense stretching. Just Kidding Anyway, I think that focusing on heavy eccentrics and loaded stretching would be a great way to elicit significant microtrauma and thus facilitate hypertrophy and maybe some hyperplasia.
