Hypem's log: 5/3/1

Nooo Can’t believe it !
I doubt it’s still on cause it’s written like 9.95$ on their website for the red ones. I think the shipping would be more expensive than the bands anyways aha

Do you know any other Europeans retailers than would do the equivalent ? I’m scared of getting a cheap bad that would break after two weeks.

These are european retailers:

Mods, if listing these retailers are not allowed, feel free to remove.

I don’t know any of them. I personally visit another board, and someone had the same question as you regarding european retailers. Someone responded with those.

I would just keep an eye of the major retailers. I’m subscribed to Rogue, Again Faster, and Elitefts.

Squat day, today my top set was 115kg and I wanted to crush it. This was my 1RM in April.

Box jumps 3x5
5x90
3x102,5
12x115, which is a huge PR for me. I was aiming for 10 but to beat my 16x105 I needed 12. I have the video that I might post later. Bar speed was good but I almost missed the last one before reminding to push my chest into the bar after 2/3 of the way up. My descent is pretty fast but I guess when you have reps to do you don’t want them to last too long. That comes from the last 3 cycles of high reps on the PR sets and widow makers. I’ll try to control it more during spinal tap and the sets of 5s.

Assistance
Supersetted with the squats and then after the PR set.
5x10 of each : Chins, DB incline 18kg, ab wheel.

Weight 83kg

I’ll look these up cheers. A shame I’m not in the UK anymore ahah I’ll see what the delivery fees are. Thanks for reading and answering !

He got in ahead of me. For pull aparts and stuff I think any brand will do.

Thanks ! I’ll just take a standard one. Quick question for wrist wraps, what brand do you have ? Is there just one size ? After the pain in my thumb I might look into it. I still haven’t bought a belt either… I have been working far from my 1RM so it’s ok for now.

@isdatnutty thanks ! Looks like your squatting is going well too!

Just posted the video if anybody’s got any feedback.

I’m using the Elite FTS Normal wrist wraps right now. If I get another pair it’ll probably be the Gangsta ones by Mark Bell though.

There are a bunch of sizes, usually from 30 cm to around a metre. Mine are maybe 80 cm I think.

I think you had a couple more in you too! Great job @hypem74

Wish my hips were as loose as yours. I have to spend 15 minutes daily just to get the kinks worked out

Thanks ! Maybe if I stayed tight in my upper back I could have but I didn’t want to grind.

I did karate for two years and kicking high helps for mobility ! Just find a stretching routine and do it consistently! Good Iuck !

The squats look good. You’re maintaining control, so at the moment the descent speed isn’t an issue. My only qualm is that when the weights get heavier, your margin for error will shrink considerably and the risk with increase in line with that. Just something to be aware of.

Yeah i thought about that, I’ll see how I react to heavier weights. I’ll introduce jokers in the anchor too.

It’s not a matter of how you’ll react but a risk/reward scenario. Currently, you divebomb, and get great rebound but most probably lose tightness in the hole and coming up. Because you’re not handling super heavy loads, the risk isn’t huge but the reward is significant. Add some weight and the balance changes, because if/when you lose tightness in the hole and coming up with heavier loads it doesn’t matter how much rebound you get: you’ll get folded over and because the loads are heavier there’s a much higher risk of injury

I see, thanks for the explanations ! I’ll make sure to work on that and post the videos of it !
I know the rebound greatly helps me for the fist few inches and then I managed to carry over but you’re right that with heavier loads I’ll need to control it much more.

I’ll post my bench workout tomorrow with a video too.

Mark I’ve been looking at wraps.

What do you think about multi purpose ones from Slingshot/Mark Bell ? That’s basically the version previous from the Gangsta ones (a bit cheaper).

Does length matter ? In doubt which one should I take ? If I buy some I’ll go for the same as you, 80cm. Some are IPF approved, some not…

Do you plan to compete? If not, idt it matters whether something is IPF approved or not. Using wrist wraps myself, I’ve realized my titan wrist wraps are too stiff. They’re extremely strong and supportive, but for the weights I handle, it is not necessary. Looking back at my purchase, I would have gone with a wrap that’s less stiff and much more comfortable. I’d keep that in mind.

Thanks for your input. That’s why I want to get the multi purpose ones as I read the gangsta are stiffer.
The weights I handle are not that heavy either that I need very stiff ones, I think you’re right.

I just want to find a way to avoid aggravating my thumb pain basically !

I’d actually say go Gangsta because you can regulate how stiff they are.
