Hugh Jackman DLs 400lbs

you guys are lucky that your schools even have gyms!

There used to be someone on this site (wish I could remember who), who, when asked how much he benched, would say “around 700lbs” and get knowing nods, and “not bad” in response.

Never mind the “average” person, how many main stream actors taking lifting seriously? Sure, you’ll see one bulk up for a movie and the sonofabitch will be on the cover of Men’s Health, then he’s back to being a skinny bitch ASAP, because apparently Hollywood hates muscle. How many actors even maintain any appreciable muscle mass at all anymore? Jason Statham? How much can he bench or dead lift?

When they first announced he would play Wolverine Jackman seemed like the worst possible choice, but the guy has busted ass in the gym for almost 15 years now to be the Wolverine, and because he enjoys it. Good for Hugh Jackman.

Wasn’t on this site. That was Mike Jenkins (RIP).

there were over a hundred guys in my school that could DL 405… It was a hard core, old school, 4 lift based weight room that blasted either heavy metal or hard core rap. If you didn’t put your weights back on the rack when you were done, you lost gym privileges for a week. If you didn’t break parallel on your squat, IT DIDN’T COUNT and you were called a pussy.
Damn dude; I don’t even know where to begin to describe how different things are now. I mean maybe you see it at your son’s school, but everything is literally the opposite. Tons of bullshit, not a focus on the main lifts. Squats are always done ridiculously high; you’re lucky to even see one half squat. Fucking everything counts, regardless of how bullshit the lift was. Guys throw on the fucking shoulder saver on the bench to cut 2" off the ROM, then bounce the bar off their chest and have their back spotter deadlift it off of them. Good lift; that was all you bro. No one puts their weights away.
Wow… Sad state of affairs.

This.

Have ya’ll seen how much progress Jackman has made since his first X-Men movie. I mean that dude has worked his ass off the last few years, and honestly with all the work he’s put into his Physique, I’d have to assume that they (as in his trainers) just don’t have him ‘concentrating’ on his DL numbers all that much, because obviously that’s not going to transfer over to the big screen as much as other goals would.

I have no doubt that Jackman would be DL’ing some serious weights if that was his main objective, because he’s obviously not afraid of hard work and putting in the time.

I think Jackman certainly deserves some credit, don’t get me wrong, but let me help put this whole thing in perspective:

My 45 yr old 140 lbs girlfriend, who is not a competitive powerlifter and never has been, deadlifted 3 x 3 x 315 yesterday.

Moral of the story: a 400 lbs deadlift for a non-beginner adult male is not worthy of any special recognition.
That’s kinda where I was going with my first comment. I’m sure it’s better than some people - that’s great. But if he’s been training for years? Not so very impressive. But I do like Wolverine!

Thanks for submitting the photo unaltered. I was having a bad day. Appreciate the laugh. All these actors getting big and/or shredded in a month or two. Why doesn’t Congress spend months investigating aas in the movie industry? Baseball? Who gives a fuck? I’m tired of superhero bs in movies… so… idk. I guess it’s escapism in Fantasy land for twigs who have been picked on all their lives and blow a wad in minute or less. sad.

Btw. Real heroes are in country right now.
Thank one when you meet em.

But what bothered me were the multiple comments from people saying “wow, thats insane!” and even worse “I don’t see the point in lifting that much weight.” People have no frame of reference for what a strong deadlift is, and a lot of them apparently don’t “get” wanting to be strong in the first place.
I agree with this.

When you have no frame of reference for what the average human body, your human body, ACTUALLY can do, then there’s simply no way for people to actually place things into… perspective.

I deadlifted 345 lbs one day in high school, my brother told some of his friends at school the next day and word got around to some of my classmates.

Conversation that happened with me/right next to me:
Kid 1: Dude staystrong deadlifted 345 pounds yesterday!"
Kid 2: What’s a deadlift?
Kid 1: I don’t know but he did 345 lbs on it!

Moral: people hear a “big” number, they’re impressed. To most people outside of powerlifting/bodybuilding, over 300 is a huge amount of weight.

LMAO

I’m another one that says it’s fine for him to deadlift what he deadlifts.

He also fucked up his name if he was going for boobtron.

For all those shitting on his deadlift #'s, what do you deadlift currently? (not your all time best from 10 years ago…) ? And are you a competitive or recreational lifter? And what do you weigh?

I don’t think people are getting on Hugh jackmanns case. I think some if us are more focusing on the public/fans being impressed by a 400lb DL. I respect the 400lb DL, but I think it’s a pretty attainable number for a healthy male after training for 2yrs or so.

Btw I pulled 455x5 yesterday morning at 195bw.

You?

High school athletics are hilarious right now. Trust me, though, the parents don’t need you to do a bunch of silly crap. I’ve had several come to me because I get them significantly stronger than their coaches do, which then gets them more attention. No need for any frill.

To those criticizing Jackman:

Okay, so he’s not a big deadlifter like YOU are.
Now let’s see YOU act half as good as he does.

Oh, you’re not an actor, you say?

Bingo.
