How'd You Get Big?

  1. Train Hard with Frequency and Volume fluctuations

  2. Eat for SIZE. Watercress tea salad doesn’t cut it little boy. EAT BIG GET BIG

  3. Dont’ sleep longer than 4 hours at a time. i.e. divide your night’s sleep into two 4 hour periods, and EAT inbetween them.

Now GFH!

I’m also not ‘big’ but at 5’9 or 5’10 and 196 I’m not small either. I was a recreational lifter in highschool (if that makes sense) and I spent about 8-9 dollars on lunch everyday of my senior year; keep in mind school lunches are my HS were 2.10 I also used to grill up about 100 oz. of chicken on sundays and bring it to school and I would eat 1 slab of meat every class period.

Just now getting back into it so hopefully I’ll be around 210-215 come new year

I am not enormous by any stretch, but when I was bigger (when playing sports), my rules were:

  1. Eat a huge amount of protein before bed, and fat too. Big protein shake mixed with natty peanut butter. I switched to cottage cheese when I got tired of the above, but only for one night at a time.

  2. Eat mixed nuts throughout the day, constantly. And I mean constantly. Some people swear by eating carbs - I had great results with constantly stuffing my face with almonds, walnuts, and cashews. Add dried fruit to add sweetness if you want.

  3. Eat as big a breakfast as you can stand, of the healthiest stuff you can (egg whites, oatmeal, etc.). My appetite is always raging when I eat a big breakfast.

  4. Deadlifts and/or cleans, of either the power or hang variety.

  5. On big lifts, do the 8x3 stuff instead of the 3x8 stuff. I found that to be effective. More traditional high volume on more isolation-style moves.

  6. Do some cardio - it always increased my appetite, so it was easier to eat more.

Just a few thoughts - best of luck.

just about everything you said sounds reasonable…i have a fast metabolism…do you think its necessary to have a “clean” bulk diet…or should i just pack it in?

I eat clean until I’m full then I eat a piece of pie or ice cream. I’m 6ft 3in 252lbs, not big but average people make “big” comments on a daily basis. At night it is protein with olive oil, flax seed meal and omega 3’s.

Eat clean with some high calorie junk for calories. Eat fruit or nuts between meals. That is how I do it. I’ve gone from around 220 to 250 in about 8 months.
