OK, serious question here. Whenever I do BB Shrugs, or deads for that matter, I always end up catching my junk with the bar. What’s worse, by the end of a set of shrugs, my wang is basically draped over the bar and it looks really obscene, even if it’s still disguised by the shorts I’m wearing. So seriously, how the F do you guys avoid this??
Can’t say deadlifts have ever been a problem for me with that, so someone else will have to field that one. And I just use dumbbells for shrugs, or do behind the back shrugs.
Yeah that happens to me too, but i do BB shrugs at home.
When I go to the gym, I use their machine with the two handles.
I guess you could always wear a cup to minimize it.
The elastic tuck?
I’ve experienced this before, but I wouldn’t call it a problem. I’ve only noticed one guy staring at me while I was doing it, but I did my sets anyway. If you’re that concerned about it get a tight pair of boxer briefs or compression shorts and tuck your junk against your leg, although you might risk some damage as opposed to just letting it hang over the bar.
I just wear boxer briefs…keeps it safely out of harm’s way.
yeah, i may have to find boxer briefs to wear on days I do shrugs. I’m REALLY glad it’s not just me with this problem.
Just tuck it under, hahaha
I don’t understand how you can wear boxers for ANY type of working out. I generally wear spandex for leg lifting/deadlifting kind of thing, or boxer briefs.
I lean forward just a little bit to avoid grinding against my junk.
Have you tried the poor-man’s thick bar shrugs?
It’s an equipment hog so if your gym is busy it may not work, but if it’s dead, what you do is use the power cage. Set the safety catches to just below your lowest range of motion on your shrugs.
Then, place two bars on the rack on the safety catches, and stand outside of the rack, not in it. As if you are going to place weights on one side. Put on however much weight you want on each of the bars, but only on that side.
Now grab a bar with each hand on that same weighted side, while still on the outside of the rack…you will be holding the thickest part of the bar, far enough back from the plates so if they slide back you won’t get pinched.
Then shrug as if lifting a wheelbarrow. Takes a lot of grip strength to do it so I alternate days when I shrug. Also if you get up in weights, the un-weighted end of the two bars will shift all over, so you can counter weight it with a small 25 lb plate or two. Just make sure to use a collar because obviously the counter weighted side points down as you shrug up, and the plates will slide off.
It sounds confusing but I made a quick diagram…sorry it’s a bit shoddy but I was feeling lazy. Just be happy I recreated you with a healthy tan and bald so you can channel Prof. X.
Are you serious? The first thing I thought was why doesn’t he just wear boxer briefs? Pretty obvious solution.

I find that the problem still occurs, even with briefs. I’ve never caught any stares from it, but if you’re having a big issue with the thing-cling, try some compression shorts, as was recommended.
Taking off what medevac said, drop the support on the side you’re on one level so that the support on the opposite side is higher. Makes 'em a little easier to do.
Trap bar?
If you were intense youd simply cut your dick off.
…Just sayin’
I wear compression shorts whenever I lift, this seems to take care of the problem for the most part. That’s not to say that I haven’t had this problem with my junk before, but the compression shorts generally tend to solve it. And when they don’t, it’s nothing a little readjusting can’t solve.
Take a tip from Rue Paul and fruitbowl it
And yeah…I’ve had this problem too. I wear boxer briefs and I don’t find it helps that much either…I think I’m gonna go buy some compression shorts this weekend…not because of this, but because I think they’re cool and have been planning on buying some for a bit anyways =)
Um . . . lean forward slightly
Bend your legs at the knees slightly and wear boxer briefs.
