Must be a bad doctor if she/he suggest taking painkillers when you have DOMS, and in such big amounts. I take 400mg ibuprofen when I have 39C fever, you take 600mg ibuprofen every 4hours after a tough workout/when not eating enough protein.

Unhealthy.
No she didn’t suggest that; that protocol came from someone else. If it’s truly crippling DOMS, yeah, I’d do that. If it’s not that bad, then titrate it to the point that you’re operational. If 200mg works for you, then great… but if the DOMS are as bad as the OP described, I personally start with 600mg off the bat and then work down over time – but no higher than 600. 600mg is a standard prescription ibuprofen dosage for adult males.

Sometimes I’ll take 400-600 mg of ibuprofen and 100-200mg magnesium at night before I sleep because I wake up from discomfort from DOMS if I don’t.

It’s more that exposure to a doctor means I think ibuprofen and other painkillers first, rather than foam rolling, epsom salt baths, etc.
Really? Exposure to a doctor should mean learning to avoid med’s when not needed. You dont start drinking NyQuil if you’re coughing abit - you drink hot tea and go to bed early, you don’t start popping ibuprofen if your muscles are aching - you drink alot of fluids; eat alot of protein; and know that the next workout it wont be as painful anymore, you don’t start popping ADD drugs if you have concentration problems due to disinterest - you find a place to study with no outside stimulus or distractions.

You know why it’s not good to be a painkiller addict and end up in an accident? there’s only that much painkillers the anesteshia doctor can give you to safely lessen the symptoms, and they wont work as good when your tolerance is high from popping drugs everytime you flex your muscles.

Moreover, usually painkiller addicts feel everything more painful that those who dont pop.

And seriously, why do you want to pop PRESCRIPTION pills for D.O.M.S?

My thoughts exactly NikH…it’s a sad indicator when over-exposure to a doctor has you looking to drugs as a first solution to some temporary and normal soreness.
It’s a sad indicator of the general state and direction of the modern western medical system - it’s no indicator of the quality of the doctor he lives with i’d suggest though.

As far as terrible DOMS goes I’ve always:

a. Relished it

b. Masturbated furiously - it doesn’t help but it will take your mind off the pain for a while.

Am I the only one that thinks that severe DOMS isn’t anything to sneeze at? It’s not like you’re actually injured. Just stretch and do light pause squats or something else to get blood into your legs. It’s just soreness; I don’t see how it warrants fancy remedies that probably won’t even help much. I honestly don’t see much merit behind lowering intensity/volume for post-layoff training either. You’re body’ll handle it, so why shy away? He who can take the most shit will go the farthest. That’s always been my mentality anyway.
Also on board with this. Everyone here (hopefully) has lived through this, and/or still does. I can’t say I’ve really ever done anything particularly to AVOID soreness, my only concerns are with any tweaks or strains I’m dealing with. But soreness? Time spent worrying about that is just silly to me I guess. And it’s certainly not due to a lack of work ethic on my part.
Please re-read the OPs post. This is not “normal soreness,” this isn’t just a muscle “ache,” the individual is having issues with tasks of daily living. It takes him several minutes just to stand up. These are NSAIDs we are talking about, not narcotics. If you do not have medical training, please do not comment on something you are not trained for.
