How to Choose a Fed

there are so many feds to choose from-where do i start?
raw, tested, and in california.
also, do you need to pay for all feds? i saw a 40$ membership charge and 55$ meet charge for usapl. 95$ to compete? sounds a little steep.

Just pick a local comp and do it. It doesn’t matter what fed it’s for.

If you want to lift raw, do so. You can do it in ANY fed. Just because they’re allow equipment doesn’t mean you HAVE to wear it.

Again, just cos the fed’s untested doesn’t mean you HAVE to juice up.

Go onto powerlifting watch and use their meet locator to find out whats going on around you.

Simple, lift in feds that support powerlifting in your area by holding meets on a regular basis. If you’re not competing for one reason or another contact the meet director and support him or her by doing something other than lifting.

This is a grassroots activity. Regions go dark really quick when there is a lack of local lifter support.

I live in one of the most high profile cities in the world where you can find anything…except a powerlifting meet.

Where in California? There aren’t that many meets in SoCal period.

Theoretically, USAPL, UPA and APA all offer raw and tested here but there’s no UPA in SoCal and they are new to raw.

I agree with the advice just to lift wherever.

Membership fees are a once a year thing. Makes fed hopping expensive though.

I’m in socal, LA to be exact. I found one in USAPL in santa clarita but it interfere’s with my schedule. are they generally on saturdays?

Yes, the vast majority of meets are on Saturdays. Some larger meets are two days long and they are on Sat and Sun (you would just lift on one day depending on the weight class). You will probably have to take the day off. I haven’t competed in CA but the USAPL is generally top notch, I think the AAU has meets out there as well but I could be wrong. If this is your first meet don’t get hung up on the fed, go out and have fun and get your feet wet. If you get bit by the iron bug then get more serious about the fed and what you want to do in it. Good luck.
