How to Add Knurl to a Bar?

a lot ofthe farmers walks implements have a smooth finish. but I gotta have some serious knurl when I go big. any suggestions how rough up a smooth bar and give it killer knurl?

Get an air grinder and go to town on it.

Take it to a machine shop.

They should be able to put the surface on it.

Start using chalk?

Why would you want knurling on farmers handles? There’s not supposed to be knurling.

I’d just use some strapping tape. You can get tape that has very good traction and sticks forever.

why wouldn’t you want knuroing on a farmers walk handle? you could lift more weight easier

Why would you want to make it easier? The idea of farmers is to work grip and hand strength. I can lift more weight easier by getting stronger.

I don’t have experience with this, but I would think real sharp knurling would tear up your hands a lot more. If you start to lose the weight, there is no “roll” like a deadlift. The handles will just ride down your palms and fingers.

I don’t know what kind of weight you’re moving, but people routinely pick up 350-400+ pounds per hand with no knurling.

You’ll also very unlikely to see any knurling in strongman competition. Then again, I guess it doesn’t really matter if you’re not planning to compete. I just don’t think knurling is necessary and I don’t think it will add that much more to your lift than chalk.
