How Old Is Too Old To Skate Board?

Hell Trak, are we talking the great Eddie Fiola here? I’m ready to go dust off the old Predator I had in 85. Remember the Hell Trak dance, was that RL Osborne doing the stunts for that? That chick was hot…Pam Gidley I think.

Bert slides, rock on. That was the second trick I learned back in the day. The first was an acid drop off a fence. Took me a while to garner the gonads to take it from a grass landing to a paved one. But I was more interested in building my personal Hell Track around town, through the woods and people’s back yards. If you know what Hell Track refers to we’ve got lots to talk about.[/quote]

Oh yeah…so I’m writing programs, going through consultations on the phone and what do I see Grant drops the total bomb…“HELL TRACK” on T-Nation.

sweet…I gotta go find some neon

Yeah, but have you busted a fastplant into the transition? That’s a funny one to try, I love the looks I get when I throw down a Bert Slide. Those were dead when I was a kid, but since I’m older skating with these kids, it seems so right

never done those but i busted a face plant trying to transition…lol

for a real thrill try flying off your board into a bush with old people watching you. i mean old like 65+. you know, JD’s “peers” : )

Rock on!!! Now how’s this for a Rad poster:
“To Grant … The Raddest Guy I know. Your Pal, Bill Allen” aka, Cru Jones.

Chick was Lori Loughlin of Full House fame, now on some OC ripoff show.

Cru Jones interview:

This is beautiful. I haven’t skated in… 8? yrs. But want to teach/skate with my 5 yr old son. Still got my old deck and everything. But I just hit 30 last summer and was a bit worried about looking like a fool. I was watching some kids skate across the street last summer and really got the urge to grab my deck and join in, but felt real old and didn’t. This thread has completely erased such rediculous thoughts. I can’t wait for the snow to melt!

Hmm, any suggestions for a set-up for a 5 yr old? For that matter, my 3 yr old daughter will likely join in!

I thought I join in the discussion and say at 32 I am just starting to learn how to skate for the first time. I thought it would be a great way to spend time with my boys. They are only 2 and 4 now, which gives me some time to actually get good.

Matt

I don’t know how many people will read that post but to me…that might be about the best forum comment anyone has said here.

Besides the overwhelming, cough, cough, “love” that is shown on the forum…how many people have actually talked of taking up a hobby so they can enjoy it with there kids. That’s awesome Matt - I know your boy’s will appreciate it.

talk with you soon,

Grant, looks great. The only movie poster I have ever seen that it better is my autographed Christy Comeback poster. Lori Laughlin, what a hottie she was/is. Can we go back to the Hell Trak dance please? I’d like to recreate in my Garage. Could be done with all the neon and thin ties that the queers up here in Norcal rock. Was that RL Osborne? How bout a call back about the DVD sometime this decade.

It is an awesome post…and what a great thing you’re doing. You’re not too old and your children will get the greatest sense of joy having Dad do this with them. You’ll see it on their faces and will give them incredible memories. I know that personally.

Whereabouts in Ontario are you so I can help with recommendations for set-ups. I always prefer Powell products and they make a great line - “Angelboy” but I dont know the availability in Canada. Let me know how I can help at anytime.

Brantford. Which is close (enough) proximity to London, Hamilton, Toronto.

My son and I play Tony Hawk Pro Skater all the time, but you should have seen his face when we were in West 49 the other day and they had a skate video playing. “Is that real? You mean you can REALLY do that?” I’m so psyched to show him some tricks…

I’ve never skated with pads, but I’m thinking that after 8 yrs, it might not be a bad idea… Plus, if I expect him to wear them…

LOL…my knowledge of skate bowls will surprise you but roughly 35 minutes from you is a very solid free skatepark. Nice bowl, a bit small but with fun transitions, off of Bronte near the lakefront. Tagged up beautifully its got some nice lines in it including a few too many “R’s” (and yes, Grant a few R stickers). He’d love it.

Definately get pads/helmet and so forth. I might try to convince to go for the old Animal Chin DVD though…

Let me know how I can help - always here for you.

hard9026 …

Not sure exactly the stunt riders in the “Send Me an Angel” dance, but I think it was a variety. However, for the racing, Cru’s stunt double was Travis Chipres. Travis is a rock star who I’ve had the pleasure of riding with on a number of occasions. He’s still my main sugar daddy in the biz.

Oh, now that I know the man behind the handle, I’ll give you a ring tomorrow.

What about longboarding? I just got my first (used) longboard a few months with it and I don’t know how to do anything other than skate to school and back.

Wow, you didn’t just drop the “Send me and Angel” bomb. I could have sworn RL was in that flick. Used to hang with him during the Club Homeboy, Jive Hangles days. I don’t know why more contests don’t have dances anymore, where have all the good times gone? Thanks for the note on the call. Dnic. Any thoughts on re creating the old Club Homeboy Charlie Brown Shirt R-style?

Beware the CKY series, great skating but not for kids. Do I sound like a Dad now? John, give me a hand here…(tears running)

Great to mention longboarding - I actually had a pic of me downhilling on my Robert August. Lets talk more…

Get some soft ass wheels and let it rip, loosed the trucks and just go carve the streets. It has some minimal mobility rather than a short board. Ollies are tough if you have a surf insprired model. Great for that trip to the store for a 12 pack of Heineken and diapers.

OK, so I plan to ride my board to work tomorrow as long as it doesn’t rain. What’s the best way to learn how to jump on and off curbs so I don’t look like an ass walking my board across every intersection?

I’d like to get back on an MTB, the major problem I have is size.
All the bikes seem to be made for a guy who’s 5 11 and 155.
I’m 5 8ish and around 265 right now.

Anyway…back to bikes. I was looking at the Kona line, they seemed pretty sturdy.
I’ve had advice to get the Blast, and upgrade as I break/bend something, or to start with the next one up.

The local Kona dealer immediately tried to sell me the top of the line hardtail. But 1200 is a buttload of money to spend on a bike, I think.
Any suggestions from anyone?

I would look at www.konaworld.com
The Hoss would do you well if you aren’t out for racing.
