And should I do heavy or light weight?
I am not 74. I am 60 and 362/365 days a year old. I train 3 days a week, full body approach. Heavy or light weights? I use resistance that I can do 3 sets of 12. When I reach three sets of 12 I add resistance. That is what I do.
Now, there are people here who are sharper than me. They will be along. You will receive excellent instruction on your training and diet. Listen to them.

It’s not a matter of age.
I frind of me is 76 and is in the Gym 6 Day’s a week.
Listen to your body then you should feel if you need rest or go for the gym.
At least twice a week…full body 6 to 10 exercises per workout and at least one set per exercise
walk at least 30 minutes everyday if you can
