How much do you bench?

Ironbabe: it is my experience that being able to bench your bodyweight is very good for a woman. A better gauge, I only know two women who can even do a pull-up or two. If you can do a pull-up you’re doing really well.

Ironbabe…145 is a pretty damn good bench for your weight. My wife is 5’8", 135lbs, and she benches 115 for 2 reps. she is the strongest lady in the gym…the most beautiful too.

I’m 5’9" my best I weighed 170 and got up 265 lbs. Now I am around 160 and can nail between 225 and 235 depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Hey Patty…don’t be scammin the boys with your 440lb bench hehehehe. Did the goods come yet?

I agree with Nate Dogg…when you ask these types of questions, who knows what responses are true or not true. The bullshit responses certainly don’t give the kid who asked the original question any help. I personally think a 215 lb. bench press at 6’ 145lbs. is pretty damn good. I’m guessing he’s pretty young. He’s obviously very thin…if he’s doing this using good form, he can probably expect to bench over 300 once he fills out. I personally think that 300-350 is a realistic goal for this kid if he’s committed to putting in the effort over time. I am 30 yrs. old 6’4" 200lbs. and my best ever bench (when I’m not on the internet) was 275 and 225 6 times with a 201 tempo. Not much for my weight, but I have long arms (at a 90 degree elbow angle the bar is still about 6-8 inches from my chest). I haven’t benched in years, but I am going to try and bring my max single (probably about 245 right now) up to 295 or so by the end of the summer. I do think some guys are being honest (there are some damn impressive benches out there), but some of these guys are just full of shit.

i think im getting in a bit late on this one judging by how many responses there has been, but i want my numbers up

im 5"6 weigh 165. I havent done a max since november, but even then it was 325(1RM)…im notgoing to make an estimation as to how much i can do now, but i know its more…

I’m 17, 5’7",195 lbs. and I recently maxed out @ 375#. Hoping to crack some heads in spring football.

Bjaffe - 300lbs is quite low limiting of ur potential if he’s young and actually realy cares about putting his bench up abit. I would think a guy who’s 145lbs 6’ and bench 215lbs and if he’s like … 16 or so - would be able to bp up to 400lbs naturally if he put a lot of effort in it (Within a 5 years or so).

I weigh 210lbs and am 5’8" tall. My 1rm is about 450lbs raw. But on the other hand I have been concentrating on the bench press for a few years now and my squat and deadlift suck in comparison.

Thank you for the wise words Big Chief. I’ll remember that when I do my bench presses today. Maybe that’s been my problem. Those silky panties are so distracting. They just rub me a certain way and I start popping wood. What can you do? LOL!

As for benching, at 5’4", 130-135lb my best benches were 185x5, 195x4, 215x2 and 225x1. I’ve never been a strong bencher, but those lifts aren’t too bad.

I haven’t benched for a long time until last week due to shoulder injuries. I’ve lost a ton of strength and am starting over. And my bodyweight is higher than it was when I had those best lifts. It’s also interesting that I have been able to close-grip 135lbs for five sets of five, and it has been much easier than doing a regular bench with the same weight. I should be back up to my old strength levels fairly quickly. As muscle memory should kick in. And then it will be time to get my lifts beyond what they were.

What I ment by Ego is that too many kids/people get caught up in the numbers game. All they care about is the single, no matter how it goes up. I spent years as a personal trainer and am in my 13th year of coaching/teaching 12-15 year olds how to work out. I just catch too many of them obsessing over it, dropping the weight at about 100 mph’s and letting it bounce back up or crush them down. Unfortunately there are usually too many kids for me to monitor all of them. Sure, there’s a time and place for singles but most people I see train have no business doing them b/c of their form. Many of the guys I graduated with are so banged up from years of bad form and abuse and doing singles all the time. Anyway, no disrespect ment Powerlifter. Leo, not everyone’s gonna have a good bench press…maybe there is another lift you are strong in. Nate Dogg, good answer, you gave numbers, they may be old but it still will help people see what different body types and body weights can do.

819 pounds with a broken wrist 2RM…all natural.

hey 5’8 190 275

17,6’1,I weigh about 210 and bench 315(1x). Should be better. Got to build the chest more!

I’m 17,6’1,and weigh about 210, solid. I do 315 (1x) max. Should be better! Got to build the chest!

I believe the question actually is:

what’s your MAX BENCH?!?!

Just remember that chest development does not rely solely on “how much you can bench”. There are many productive movements that should be incorporated into your routine along with changing reps, tut, and rest intervals.

For example:
Incline bb/db press, fly movements from various angles, dips, etc…

This will ensure optimal muscle maturity.

No offense motown, but we have an ongoing spoof here about newbies, who show their “newbieness”, by asking whats your max bench?, not sure why but most newbies ask that question. I think its just cause thats how they rate a man’s worthiness, by how much he can bench, but what they don’t realize is that there is much more to weightlifting than how much a person can bench. So whether you are a newbie or not it comes across as that and unless you want that tagged to your name Id advise against asking a question such as that.

Yes, I really must agree with you, Ike. But to get the full effect, I think you’ll admit that you have to include more exclamation points. (I prefer a three-to-one ratio, myself.)

To wit: What is your MAX BENCH?!!!?!!!?!!!?

Do you squat? Deadlift? Power clean? What’s your max on those lifts? Don’t judge your overall strength by an exercise you have to lie down for.
