How Long Is Your Commute?

1 1/4 hrs each way daily in good weather. Gotten used to it after 20+ years. It’s the getting up at 4am that is still tough.

I have to really watch my sleep (7 hrs minimum) or my recovery tanks.

And I second the “books on tape” notion - I have 2 boxes of tapes/cds I collected listened to over the years. Good stuff.

Edit : The company going from 5 8hrs (10’s) to 4 10 hrs shift few years back was awesome!

My commute was 8 miles, then I bought a house and its now 13.5 miles. Man, I get such road rage in the mornings though with how poor people drive. I mean, we’re all trying to get to work and people are asleep at the wheel and driving like they forgot where they were going. Without traffic, I can make it in 15-20 minutes. Today, with a little rain, it took me 50 minutes. Stupid Illinois drivers.

In December my commute was 30 miles each way so about an hour to an hour and half depending on traffic. Sometimes 2 hours each way.

Now my commute is about 10 minutes total…I’d take a 30% pay cut to keep the 7 minute commute, no joke. It’s unbelievable how much better I feel on a day to day basis just from this one change.
I seriously understand that.

To those who do happen to be stuck with 20 to 30 minute commutes, though, I HIGHLY recommend taking that time and using it to further your education. Listen to self-improvement or educational audio on your way to and from work, every day, every time you go to work. Think about it: 20 minutes, twice a day, adds up to 160 extra hours of education a year! That’s really insane if you think about it. You take the time that most people just waste listening to music or talk radio, and you learn a new language, advance your knowledge in your field, learn how to sell, market or promote your service, product, or self, or just get smarter.

I started doing this years ago and I cannot, I REALLY cannot recommend this highly enough. Anyone who is not doing this is making an egregious misappropriation of the precious little time we have on this earth to improve his life. Plus, once you get started it’s really fun.
Indeed.

I take the subway about an hour a day and that’s where I read the most. I read about 40 to 50 books a year and if I didn’t have a commute I’d be down to 5.

1 way is about an 8 minute drive (1.5 miles) then 25 minutes on public transportation pending no delays. Only pay for the driving part which is basically nothing.

Ive recently moved to a smaller town and have gone from commuting 1.5 hours a day to 10 minutes a day. I love it and dont think I could ever go back to commuting for hours a day. It means I have more time to train and cook.

One drawback is that I now have to travel 4 hours one way to visit my old city to see family and friends. I do this once every 2 weeks.

Hey, little buddy. What ever happened to that uprising you were planning to overthrow your incompetent soccer club coach?

About 15 feet, each way.

Hey matey,

It all turned out well… we have a new coach and things look promising for the up-coming season.

In your situation yes, it absolutely is.

This morning, it wasn’t long enough…

 My wife walked in the door this MORNING at at 12:30! Left again at like 5:30. She said her whole department (PFP) was there until midnight last night.

God bless you tax accountants.

I’ve been doing that since January, lol.

If you include the 8 hours I got Friday night, I got 21 hours of sleep last week. Got home at 130am last night. Fuck leaving that early in the morning though. I don’t get in until 930ish when I work that late.

Hat’s off to your chick.

Oh, yeah, it’s that time of the year, isn’t it, beans? Ganbatte, dude. I remember always being aware of it a while back because Rainjack would start bitching early March and pretty much disappear for most of April.

Nice! Glad to hear everything worked out.

Mine is a hour to go 25 miles. I HATE it. But I do get to work from home a lot so that makes it way more tolerable. Also 1400 watts RMS of clean audio does help. At least you can get a sub woofer massage. But even with a killer stereo, the ride gets to you.

I typically disapear, but I need the brain break these days

Too short of a commute sucks just as bad as too long of one IMO. I like to have some time to wake up in the morning and unwind in the evening. A half hour is about right.

My favorite commute was driving 30 miles on Route 33 just outside of Columbus. Took a half hour and there was no traffic. It was perfect. Just enough time to let Spike kick in and drink my PWO before the gym.

I just switched jobs but my last commute was between 45-90min depending upon traffic, and it was all traffic. This SUCKS in a manual car.

My current job has a flex start/end time and being closer to my home is about 30min. Couple different ways to go that are either back roads or main route. It’s easier b/c 4/5 days I go to the gym in the AM and so it takes me like 10-12min to get to the gym that early and my job is just about 8 minutes from there.

I listen to a local talk show when I drive but I really have wanted to look into some self-improvement stuff so I’ll use some of the places provided here to look up some media. I have some stuff angry chicken gave me too…

Holy crap…where did you come from? I haven’t seen you around since last year.
