How Long Does 1lb of Chalk Last?

If you were to use chalk to deadlift around once every week, how long would it last for?
Im thinking of making an investment

I’ve been on the same brick of chalk for a year and two months now, using it for deadlift 1x week and bench 2x week.

People’s rate of usage vary though.

It depends on how well you store you chalk. I’ve been keeping mine in a ziploc bag inside of a mini drawstring bag, which isn’t the best; the chalk breaks up too easily, and it’s more difficult to use the powder as opposed to a chunk, unless you have a big dedicated chalk bowl. I’ll be using a small tupperware container from here on out, and I expect it to last a lot longer.

For ever.

I actually prefer the powder. I scoop up an handful and squeeze it in my palms, let the excess fall off, the rub what clings in.

I’m going to try a sandwich container tupperware now…mine was pre-powdered when I bought it. The zip loc bag is too messy.

Bad idea if you travel with it. It will pop open in your bag. I use a small protein tub with a screw on lid and an opening large enough for your hand. It won’t pop open and chalking your hands inside the tub keeps all the chalk in the tub with virtually no mess.

There are tupperware style containers that have pretty damn secure lids these days. Some even screw on. Just get a quality one with a good fitting lid and it should be okay. You could keep it in a separate pocket/zippered part of your bag just in case.

I’m not gonna bother making an actual mathematical estimate, but at a quick guess, using chalk once a week will cost you about a cent per week. I can’t think of much better investments.

Protein jug or any type of secure jar sounds like a great idea. My gym doesn’t allow us to carry around bags so I just went with some smallish tupperware that I know is pretty secure.

can’t wait to own a house and have my own gym…

At once a week, you will get multiple years out of it.

I have no idea how you guys could use chalk once a week.

A pound would last forever, I believe each block is 2 oz and that will last you well over a year with the use you describe, even significantly longer if you keep it in a tupperware container and don’t break the main block. A pound is a box of chalk which I think is 8 blocks so you’ll never run out and you’ll have some left over to give away/lose and still be okay. It is funny you mentioned the “investment”, I think chalk is one of the greatest products available for its price. I would easily pay 100 bucks or more for a block of chalk if that is what it cost to make it, so the idea that it is 2 or 5 or even 10 bucks a block is an awesome deal no matter how you cut it.

I’m a chalk whore. I use it for squat, bench, and deadlift. It’s just a mental thing, I guess. But 4 oz. lasted me about 6 months.

CS

I like to use a climbing chalk sock and I keep it in a sandwich ziplock bag that I carry around in the gym in my pocket. When the sock runs out, I just go to my supply stash and refill.

edit: I lift where chalk isn’t allowed, but the staff turns a blind eye if I keep it neat and clean for the most part.

As everybody else says, how you store it matters. The only method that has worked for me is a drawstring bag with a separate pocket in the front of it. It works great because all your shit doesn’t get chalk all over it and as long as you dedicate that pocket to chalk you don’t need a plastic bag or anything.

I use a Tupperware container with clip down lid, and all of that in an old towel, so i can open my towel to ‘catch’ any chalk i drop.

But a 1lb of chalk should probably last a lifetime. That’s as shit load of it.

Investment? In chalk? haha

Yes, quite hilarious. Shallow and pedantic, actually.

I use insane amounts of chalk. I walk away from most workouts looking like I’ve been sampling free cocaine in Bolivia.
But yes, a lb of it should last months… and cost sweet fuck all…

Chalk is the cheapest piece of critical equipment in powerlifting, so don’t sweat it it won’t break your wallet.
