How Important is Casein?

I know that casein is a good pre-bed time protein due to it’s slow release of amino acids.

But how important is it that I get casein in my meals? My mainstay are eggs, chicken, beef and whey.

After comparing costs per 20grams of protein, casein (from Grow! or cottage cheese) are substantially higher priced as opposed to the above list.

I’m saving up for my marriage and so my budget is rather limited. Though I wish I can include Grow! in my daily diet (tastes great!), I really can’t afford it for now.

Can’t I just stick to egg/animal/whey proteins every few waking hours (and whey halfway thru my sleep)?

I’m already supplementing with multi-vits and fish oil. Post workout I’m taking dextrose and whey.

Note-I live in Singapore so shipping charges for Grow! is quite high.

Can you afford cottage cheese and/or milk?

Otherwise don’t worry about it. Get enough protein throughout the day and you’re fine.

I hope you’re not really waking up at night to have a protein shake. Your uninterrupted sleep is far more valuable than that shake.

If you can afford one or the other above, 1 cup of something before bed is all you need.

You are fine. You should be eating frequently enough during the day such that protein that is particularly slow-release is insignificant. Cottage cheese and Grow! are both great protein sources. But if you can’t afford them better off saving and buying her a nice rock!

Real food always takes precedence over protein powders and other processed foods.
