I learned zercher’s from Masticity (on this site) about 2.5 years ago. Hungry4more was there for the session too. I’m glad he taught me because I deployed aboard the USS Bataan shortly thereafter with no squat rack … and I don’t like the smith machine for squats. I may not have been in prison, but being in that 120 degree, tiny gym with steel floors and walls was pretty damn close. It was a pretty good alternative to regular squats, but I kept it to 225 and below so I didn’t tear my biceps or bruise myself to warrant investigation. If all you had was a barbell, plates, and maybe 25 sqft to yourself, it’s not a bad choice.
Ugh. Did you read the thread? If there’s anything we established, it’s that the risk for tearing your biceps is almost nonexistent. The weight is so close to your elbow that there isn’t much torque on the joint at all.
Yes, I read the thread, and I agree with your point. 2.5 years ago, I did not the thread, and I was uninformed. My statement was to combat the “You should never do zerchers” school of thought that I’ve seen elsewhere on this sight.

OK, but then you said you didn’t go past 225 so you wouldn’t tear your biceps. That suggests to me the point didn’t really sink in. The real issue, then, is people propagating a baseless fear that’s easily dispelled with basic biomechanics.

Back then, I did not go above 225 because I did not read the article and I was not aware that the risk was low. How could the point sink in when I had not yet even read the article? After the article, I would go heavier (haven’t done them recently though) without fearing it.

EDIT: OK, now I see your point. It would have made more sense if I had ended my post with “but I don’t believe that anymore” or something to that extent. I had to read it over a few times to understand WTF you meant.

I’m serious. I rarely stray from the combat forum so I have no idea if he took one of his sabbaticals or he’s gone or he’s still going or what. Haven’t seen his name pop up.
well you could probably just read any of the other forums and see that yes, he still posts lol

Ahhh, yea I was confused too. Glad you made the effort to learn about it, though. The same people that lose their shit over the steroid fear campaign and misinformation were jumping in this thread to shit on Zerchers for being unsafe, so I can be a little touchy.

this is one of the most ignorant and short sighted things i have ever read, and something i would expect to hear out loud from some unlifting twats, and not read on a lifting forum

Jesus dude can you fit his balls in your mouth through a computer screen too?

I’m not butthurt, just making an observation after reading through this thread and many like it over the years.

I am, however, very abrasive. And proud of that.
