Homosexuality vs. Wiping an Entire Species Off the Planet...

Exactly but the sin is still the sin. HOWEVER, the sin of lust is NOT sexual attraction which was your point. Sexual attraction is not lust. They are two different things.
So, was it penned to mean lust in general? Lust of anything? Not just sexual lust? Or sexual attraction? And over the years it’s turned into lust = sexual attraction?

Yes. The word “lust” is closely related to “covet.”
Gotcha…as in thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s wife. Thank you for the clarification. Maybe they can change the sin from lust to covet?

That’s the proper context. If you think about it that way and add some perspective it begins to make sense, no?

If lust really is strong desire for something than there is no freakin’ way ANYBODY can ever toe the line. But if admonition against lust is “Don’t steal, go earn it on your own,” then things fall into line.

If I look at my neighbor’s wife and think I want that woman bad…and I’m willing to do what it takes to steal her from her husband even at the expense of their relationship…and/or make her my wife… THEN the sin of lust has been committed.

Now if I actually carry out my thoughts and I DO take her from her husband then I have committed adultery.
Okay, but who but YOU knows that you even thought that? You would have to say to someone “I want that woman bad…and I’m willing to do what it takes to steal her from her husband even at the expense of their relationship…and/or make her my wife” for someone to know that you had committed the sin of lust. Unless lust is meant to be a between you and God sin, and not a you and the world sin. In that case, you would have to go and confess you thought that and then it would be a between you and your confessor sin and he would give you penance and then you would be forgiven.

Sure, the sin of lust is often just internally expressed. Other times you’re exactly right - it’s told to others.
One last question then: why even make it a sin? If only you know about it and don’t act on it, why is it bad? Shouldn’t the actions resulting from the thought be bad, not the thought itself? Why are thoughts bad if you don’t act on them?

In my case I’m not Catholic so I confess directly to God.

Good idea to cut out the middle-man on earth.
Once you let it go from your head (either of them) to your heart you got big problems.

MATT 15:
18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person.

I think maybe more so than saying “all sins are equal in the eyes of God”, its more like “all sins have an equal chance of being forgiven in the eyes of God”.
The point is the same. They are still equal in whatever fantasy world this “equality of sins” concept comes from. Sins are not all equal, and to say otherwise is just retarded.
I agree with this. The whole equality of sins was probably just conceived by the Church because they wanted to make more money of the common folk. The Church of the Medieval times was way too corrupt.
You have this completely backwards. The New Testament teaches the equality of sins. Penance and indulgences were invented later. This latter idea necessitates gradations of sin and is completely against the Biblical conception of sin and salvation.

Christianity seems like the easiest of the religions. There aren’t any difficult rules or rituals to follow. And, even if you do fuck up, Jesus can magically wipe it away. Buddhists and Hindus sometimes need to work for several lifetimes to achieve their goal, while Christians automatically achieve their goal by faith in Jesus. Religion can’t get much more convinient or easy than that.
i understand what you’re saying.

What i mean is, as a Christian, i’m judged pretty harshly by people around me. I can’t say, “I’m a Christian” without someone reaming me out for hating gays or whatever. Most people don’t know enough about Christianity.

i may be a Christian… but i’m also an awesome person… mega awesome in fact.

i don’t push my religion on anyone, i believe what i want and i expect people to let me.
Boo hoo?

Maybe (and this is a pretty big maybe) you should be a lot more careful with who you associate with. I don’t know many people that “ream” individuals for hating gays without that person having said something to give the impression of homophobia in the first place.
maybe i should be careful who i associate with? dude. give me a break. you’re starting to sound like every other d bag on this site.

i’m not crying about SHIT. all i’m saying is, being a Christian is NOT convenient. that’s all i’m saying.

you know whats convenient? not believing in anything.

The New Testament as we know it now. Who says it hasn’t been tampered with?

people don’t really believe this, do they?

hmmm, that’s too bad for people that are born that way.

is it also a sin if you are born hermaphrodite?

well, I guess i’m glad I wasn’t born evil like them

but I remember ted haggard telling people not to be gay, so that’s cool.

LL, if you understood who you are dealing with you would get a glimpse of why he is so strident with his denunciations of Christianity. He, by my best measure, is a lost, confused, rudderless 22 year old guy who is frustratingly searching for meaning in life.

Like many youngsters if he can’t HAVE IT NOW he gets impatient. He’s lashing out trying to establish himself as a wise man and he thinks he can do this by attacking online a faith that is thousands of years old.

He has always been a cheerleader here in this regard. In other words he has no substance; he just stands and taunts. He just doesn’t know what else to do. It’s got a lot to do with immaturity.
LOL good to know…

i dont appreciate people taking out their insecurities on me. i’m super happy with my life and my faith is a good part of that.
