all sins are equal in the eyes of god

Not if you are Roman Catholic.

Fixed.

In a sense even Catholicism teaches that all sins are equal (the line is in their book it’s kinda hard to avoid.) The idea is that there is estrangement from God (the modern conception of Hell is like that also.) But, on the other hand, Catholicism does teach categories of sins. That’s why if I lie my penance might be: one Hail Mary and one Our Father, but if I mouth rape a baby, that’s like fifty Hail Mary’s.

Maybe. Maybe not. Just because you can explain how things happen does not always mean you can explain why things happen.

shadowzz… it’s not convenient to be a christian.

Christianity seems like the easiest of the religions. There aren’t any difficult rules or rituals to follow. And, even if you do fuck up, Jesus can magically wipe it away. Buddhists and Hindus sometimes need to work for several lifetimes to achieve their goal, while Christians automatically achieve their goal by faith in Jesus. Religion can’t get much more convinient or easy than that.
i understand what you’re saying.
What i mean is, as a Christian, i’m judged pretty harshly by people around me. I can’t say, “I’m a Christian” without someone reaming me out for hating gays or whatever. Most people don’t know enough about Christianity.
i may be a Christian… but i’m also an awesome person… mega awesome in fact.
i don’t push my religion on anyone, i believe what i want and i expect people to let me.
Boo hoo?
Maybe (and this is a pretty big maybe) you should be a lot more careful with who you associate with. I don’t know many people that “ream” individuals for hating gays without that person having said something to give the impression of homophobia in the first place.

I think maybe more so than saying “all sins are equal in the eyes of God”, its more like “all sins have an equal chance of being forgiven in the eyes of God”.

Except molesting children. God will never forgive that.

The point is the same. They are still equal in whatever fantasy world this “equality of sins” concept comes from. Sins are not all equal, and to say otherwise is just retarded.

I agree with this. The whole equality of sins was probably just conceived by the Church because they wanted to make more money of the common folk. The Church of the Medieval times was way too corrupt.

If all men fought the “sin” of lust, we would not exist. If God didn’t want us to lust He shouldn’t have made the very act of procreation or the want of the act of procreation a sin.

Right, so you’d be forgiven anyway. Why even be good? I can’t believe God would be like “So, you killed 20 ppl and ate them for dinner every night of February, I forgive you because you’re Catholic and did 200 Hail Mary’s.” I have to believe God would be like “So, you killed 20 ppl and ate them for dinner every night of February, my friend Satan has a very special place in Hell for you. Amen.”

Good point.
I’ve written about this many times but the real meaning of the word “lust” has been disfigured over the centuries.
The sin of lust does not today mean what it did when those words were first penned. There is a distinction and it is an important one.
The problem is those words were penned in a very different world than today. They really need to be updated. I can’t believe sex to be such a bad thing. It’s too awesome to be maligned that way. Why is the act that creates life so bad? Creating life isn’t bad, it’s what keeps us going. Life is too precious and, dare I say, miraculous, to be made dirty. Yes, sex is cheapened and made trivial, but everything and anything in the world could be made so.
